Key Management Techniques for Greenhouse Grapes After Harvest
Grapes are perennial fruit trees, and bearing fruit consumes a large amount of nutrients, so generally after harvest, tree recovery management is carried out promptly. There is also the work of clearing the orchard and preventing pests and diseases. However, for grapes planted in greenhouses, there are relatively few diseases, and there is also relatively little dead wood and fallen leaves, and fertilization is limited, so let us take a look at how to manage them.
1. Pruning
After harvest, the main task is pruning. Cut the trunk back to 50 cm above the ground to promote the sprouting of latent buds and cultivate new main vines to serve as fruiting canes for the next year. This is actually renewing the fruiting canes and restoring new vitality. Complete this promptly after harvest. For long-shoot pruning, cut the main vine back to the bend of the trellis after fruiting to promote sprouting and cultivate fruiting canes.
2. Managing New Shoots
After a round of pruning and cutting back, a large number of new shoots are stimulated, and at this point it is necessary to begin managing the new shoots. Keep the strong new shoots at suitable node positions and remove the rest. Excess branches and shoots also consume nutrients. On the main vine, keep shoots evenly and cultivate them into fruiting canes. When they grow to sufficient length, pinch the tips, as this mainly allows the new shoots to grow. Pinch the tips when the new shoots have grown to nearly two meters.
⟦NL>3. Restoring Tree Vigor
After renewal is completed, fertilization is needed. It is best to fertilize each tree individually, applying 50 grams of urea and 150 grams of compound fertilizer per tree. Since the amount of fertilizer is not large, it needs to be applied per plant so that absorption is better. However, when applying base fertilizer in autumn, 10,000 jin of farmyard manure is needed per mu. It can be applied in trenches, because the amount of fertilizer is too large, and trench application allows even fertilization.
4. Cleaning and Control
The earlier pruning was for renewal and rejuvenation, but there was no comprehensive cleanup. We need to clear away some dead branches, overly dense branches, and some diseased and yellowed leaves and branches. Comprehensive sterilization and disinfection treatment should begin. Spray carbendazim all over, and the ground and roots must not be missed. It can be sprayed during soil turning and fertilization. You can also choose agents such as thiophanate-methyl, mancozeb, or chlorothalonil.
The management of greenhouse-planted grapes after harvest is somewhat different. The interval before using base fertilizer is relatively long, and only a small amount of topdressing is applied. Renewal is mainly carried out through pruning.
