What are the growing conditions for yellow pitaya? A full breakdown of the latest requirements
Yellow pitaya is a special variety of pitaya. Because its peel is yellow, it is also directly called yellow dragon fruit. People believe yellow dragon fruit tastes good and is therefore more precious. Yellow dragon fruit not only differs from pitaya in appearance; in fact, its growing environment is also relatively strict. Let us take a detailed look at the specific requirements.
1. Moisture
The requirements for moisture are very strict, and relatively high humidity is required. For cuttings propagated for seedlings, be careful to insert the branches into a sand bed to retain water for seedling growth. After grafting, pay attention to water supply as well; the scion must not lose water and dry out, and it needs to be misted with water. The fruit is relatively drought-tolerant, but do not water when the fruit has already shown signs of water loss. It should be done according to the soil condition, and it is best to maintain 60% to 75% humidity.
2. Temperature
Generally, it cannot grow at temperatures below 8 degrees and is prone to dying. As a tropical fruit, its optimum temperature is about 25 degrees to 35 degrees. If there is a place where the temperature does not fall below 8 degrees throughout the year, it can be planted in the ground. This is because the environment is sufficiently suitable. Grafting treatment requires between 28 and 30 degrees. The temperature must not be too low. It can grow at temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees.
3. Light
It can only grow with sufficient light; otherwise, growth is poor. In production, supplemental lighting technology is often used to achieve the goal of fruiting in all four seasons. In the orchard, yellow lights, purple-red lights, and yellow light are set up to imitate the strong light of daytime, while purple light imitates the sunlight from afternoon to evening. In this way, supplemental lighting is provided for five hours each day. This can increase yield. So one can see the effect of light duration on fruiting.
4. Soil
Acidic soil containing nitrogen is needed. At the most basic level, moist and warm soil is required, and it needs to contain large amounts of organic matter. Sandy soil is needed, with good drainage and aeration. It needs to be planted on a sunny, slightly higher gentle slope. In fact, general planting areas can be flat land or paddy fields, and both can be used for planting. Acidic red loam soil is suitable for planting.
The growing of yellow pitaya is a little stricter than that of ordinary pitaya, but most of the environmental requirements are similar. For planting and cultivation, one only needs to pay attention to these small differences.
