Dragon fruit branches directly reflect the growth condition of the dragon fruit plant, and thick, green branches are what every dragon fruit grower hopes to see, but some growers often encounter the phenomenon of branches suddenly turning yellow during cultivation. So what causes dragon fruit branches to turn yellow? Let's take a look.

1. Root rot

Yellowing dragon fruit branches are very likely caused by root rot, and the causes of root rot are, first, excessive watering, which makes it impossible for the roots to absorb nutrients, causing suffocation and root rot; second, root diseases, when root diseases occur, the dragon fruit's absorption of nutrients and water drops sharply, and the branches also show yellowing or symptoms of water deficiency due to lack of nutrients, appearing shriveled and wilted.

Remedy: For root rot caused by watering, pay attention to the amount and frequency of watering afterward. For root diseases, copper hydroxide, thiophanate-methyl, and propiconazole emulsifiable concentrate can be sprayed alternately for control, spraying once every half month until normal growth resumes.

2. Water deficiency

The root system of dragon fruit is relatively shallow and dislikes waterlogging, but it likes fertilizer and water, so sufficient water should be provided throughout the entire growth period of dragon fruit. If the soil is dry for a long time or not watered, the water lost through plant transpiration cannot be maintained, and over time the branches will turn yellow, shrivel, and wilt.

Remedy: Water regularly to keep the soil moist, but do not let water accumulate. When there is no rainfall for a long time, appropriately increase the frequency of watering, especially in high-temperature seasons, when plant transpiration consumes a large amount of water and timely replenishment is needed.

3. Iron deficiency

Although dragon fruit plants have a small demand for trace elements, none of them can be missing. Once the plant lacks iron, the leaf surface will turn yellow.

Remedy: For affected plants, a low-concentration ferrous sulfate solution, or a mixture of copper sulfate, ferrous sulfate, and lime, can be sprayed before sprouting, which can very well control iron deficiency.

4. Improper fertilizer application

When too much topdressing is applied or raw fertilizer that has not been fully fermented and decomposed is used, it will burn the dragon fruit root system, affecting the roots' absorption of nutrients, thereby causing branches to turn yellow. In addition, insufficient fertilizer use cannot timely supply what the plant needs for growth, especially when the fruit load is large. During cultivation, the phenomenon of fruit-bearing or branches suddenly turning yellow is also often seen, because fruit growth and branches compete for nutrients.

Remedy: Fertilization must be carried out according to the actual condition of the plant. If there is too much, reduce it; if there is too little, replenish it in time. At the same time, note that only fully decomposed organic fertilizer can be applied.
