The pomelo flowering period mostly occurs in April-May, which is also a period of relatively high rainfall, and this can seriously affect the quality of spring shoots, prolong flowering, affect flower quality and reduce the fruit-setting rate, and pomelo yield will also be affected to some extent. So how should pomelo flowering period management be carried out after rain? Follow the editor to learn about it.

1. Fertilize to protect leaves

Combine soil fertilization with foliar fertilization. For strong trees with few fruits, apply less; for weak trees with many fruits, apply more. Only in this way can tree vigor be balanced and the alternate bearing phenomenon be avoided. In addition, in response to rainy weather, after rain spray foliar supplements of seaweed acid, polypeptide foliar fertilizer and boron fertilizer, and increase the application of humic acid water-soluble fertilizer at the roots to replenish nutrients in time, so that the plants accumulate more nutrients. Old leaves must be protected. If old leaves fall too early, flower organ development will be seriously affected, deformed flowers will increase, and the fruit-setting rate will decline. It is necessary to improve the photosynthesis of old leaves, promote new leaves to turn green, ease nutrient conflicts, and reduce flower drop.

2. Prevent pests and diseases

After rain, pomelo is mainly harmed by red spider mites, aphids, flower bud maggots, noxious leaf beetles, sandy skin disease, canker, anthracnose, scab and other diseases. Targeted preventive measures should be selected according to the characteristics of various pests and diseases. For mites, according to local resistance conditions, choose spirodiclofen, spirotetramat, etoxazole and other agents for reproduction; for pests such as aphids and red spider mites, imidacloprid, acetamiprid, thiamethoxam and others can be selected for control. For sandy skin disease, anthracnose, scab and other diseases, prevention should be the main approach, and difenoconazole, pyraclostrobin, azoxystrobin and others can be used for control, while copper formulations can be selected for canker control. When preventing and controlling pests and diseases, be sure not to keep using one pesticide all the time, so as to avoid resistance.

3. Do a good job of drainage

After rain, drainage work should be done well to avoid water accumulation in the orchard causing root rot. For mountain orchards, a flood control ditch can be dug at the top of the orchard, and a back ditch can be dug along the inner edge of the terraced planting area. Clean the drainage ditches inside and outside the orchard in time to avoid water accumulation after rain. For flatland orchards, the flood discharge ditches, drainage ditches and furrow ditches should all connect with one another to form a network layout.

4. Thin flowers and shoots

Proper flower thinning can control unnecessary consumption of tree nutrients, make nutrients relatively concentrated, enable good flower development, and improve the fruit-setting rate. For flower thinning, first thin inflorescences, then thin flower buds. When most flower buds are the size of mung beans, remove the inflorescences at the head and tail of the fruiting mother branch and keep 1-2 clusters in the middle. When flower buds are the size of soybeans, carry out thinning, and likewise keep 2-3 flower buds in the middle. For shoot thinning, remove upright vigorous shoots, pest-damaged shoots, crossing shoots and so on, and keep 1-2 spring shoots on last year's autumn shoots to speed up the maturity of spring shoots and improve stress resistance.
