Honey pomelo is refreshing and juicy, a fruit loved by many people and grown in many regions. For fruit growers, what they want most is how to increase yield. In addition, honey pomelo produces a large amount of flowers, and flower and fruit drop is also quite common during the growing process. So it is necessary to do a good job in flower promotion and fruit preservation techniques. Now let's take a look at the flower promotion and fruit preservation techniques for honey pomelo.

1. Strengthen fertilizer and water management

The pattern of occurrence is the key to high yield and high quality of honey pomelo. According to experiments, rational formula fertilization increases yield by more than 50% compared with random fertilization. Compared with chemical fertilizers, the application of organic fertilizers gives the fruit a pure taste and tender flesh. In production, fertilization should be based on the fertilizer requirements of the pomelo tree, applying fertilizer according to the tree's condition. Fruit trees should be fertilized 4-5 times a year. The first fertilization after fruit harvest is mainly to restore tree vigor, accounting for 30% of the whole year's fertilization. The second fertilization is pre-flowering fertilizer, mainly decomposed farmyard manure, diluted and applied as a liquid; nitrogen fertilizer application should be controlled. The third fertilization is fruit-stabilizing fertilizer, with a rational combination of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. The fourth topdressing is fruit-swelling fertilizer, mainly quick-acting fertilizer, to promote fruit growth, but nitrogen fertilizer application should be controlled to avoid fruit cracking. In water management, follow the principle of "wet in spring, drainage in summer, irrigation in autumn, control in winter".

2. Flower and fruit thinning

Honey pomelo produces a large amount of flowers and consumes a lot of nutrients, so attention should be paid to flower and fruit thinning. First, according to the development of flower clusters, remove the flower clusters on the upper part of the canopy and keep the flower clusters inside the canopy and in the middle and lower parts. When the flower buds show white, promptly remove the flower buds at the head and tail of each flower spike, keeping only 2-3 robust flower buds in the middle. Fruit thinning should be based on tree vigor and plant size. During the young fruit stage, manually remove excess young fruits to ensure a reasonable load. At the same time, also remove diseased and insect-damaged fruits, deformed fruits and small fruits, and finally thin dense fruits according to the set fruit number.

3. Girdling

Girdling cuts through the phloem, which can inhibit root growth, increase the carbohydrate content of the branches above the girdling cut, raise the concentration of tree sap and the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, and increase flower quantity by about 20%-30%. The timing of girdling should be chosen according to tree vigor and flower quantity. The target of girdling is young fruiting trees with vigorous vegetative growth. For trees with fewer flowers, carry it out at full bloom; for trees with more flowers, postpone it until after flower fall. The girdling depth should preferably reach the xylem, and spiral, single-ring or double-ring shapes can be used.
