Peach trees are one of the common economic fruit trees. The fruit can be eaten, the peach blossoms can be enjoyed, the peach wood can be used for carvings, and peach gum is also an excellent medicinal material, so it can be said that the whole tree is a treasure. At present, peach cultivation is becoming more and more widespread. Right now is the spring plowing and production period, so how should peach trees be fertilized and managed? Follow the editor to learn about it.

1. Fertilization Time

Among fruit trees, peach trees are the earliest to begin spring growth activities, and the tree's nutrient supply also needs to be earlier than that of other fruit trees. Generally, after the Beginning of Spring, the temperature begins to rise, and at this time the peach tree's nutrient demand begins to gradually increase, so it is necessary to seize the opportunity to apply pre-bud fertilizer well. It is generally applied half a month before the Beginning of Spring, with 0.5 kg of nitrogen fertilizer, 0.3 kg of potassium fertilizer, and 0.2 kg of phosphorus fertilizer per tree, preferably mixed with decomposed human and livestock manure and urine fertilizer.

2. Fertilization Formula

When fertilizing, formula fertilization should be adopted to ensure the comprehensiveness and balance of the fertilizer. If the fertilizer elements are too single, it will not only affect the normal growth and development of peach trees, but also lead to poor fruit flavor, small size, and deficiency symptoms such as yellow leaves, small leaves, and fruit shrinkage disease. Therefore, it is recommended to mainly use decomposed farmyard manure when fertilizing, paired with an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer, to ensure the comprehensiveness of the fertilizer.

3. Fertilization Methods

When fertilizing peach trees, the amount of base fertilizer accounts for about half of the total fertilization amount. Generally, 50% phosphorus and potassium fertilizer and 40% nitrogen fertilizer are mixed into the base fertilizer, and the remaining nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers are applied in separate portions according to the nutrient needs of peach trees at each growth stage. Generally, they are applied in 2-3 separate applications during the peach tree's bud break stage, pit hardening stage, and fruit expansion stage. For orchards that had early leaf fall the previous year, foliar fertilization should be strengthened to promote the recovery of tree vigor. A low-concentration urea solution can be sprayed 2-3 times before bud break, and urea solution can be sprayed 2 times from after bud break to mid-July, with an interval of about one week in between.

4. Precautions

Peach trees are shallow-rooted tree species, with most of the root system distributed in the 20-30 cm soil layer, so peach trees should be fertilized appropriately shallowly, and the fertilization depth should preferably not exceed 30 cm. In addition, the horizontal roots of peach trees are generally concentrated slightly farther out at the outer edge of the canopy, and the growth direction of the root system often extends because of the fertilization site, so fertilizer should be applied relatively deep and far from the root system. This can promote the root system to develop deeper, expanding the growth surface and the fertilizer-absorbing surface.
