Which spider plant varieties are succulents?
Succulents are deeply loved by plant growers for their “adorable” appearance, especially trailing succulents, which can not only be placed on wardrobes and windows to decorate the environment, but also placed on office desks to lift the mood. So what trailing succulents are there?
1. String of Bananas
String of Bananas, also called jade necklace, has lance-shaped leaves curved like bananas with pointed tips. It is a Sedum genus succulent, with small beads densely attached to the stems, hanging down like a waterfall. In sufficient light, the whole plant turns pink, and flower stalks emerge from the leaf axils at the branch tips; usually several flower stalks grow from different leaf axils, one flower per stalk, with bell-shaped peach-pink flowers, delicate and exquisite.
Growth habits:
Jade necklace is a drought-tolerant plant that likes well-drained soil, and its optimum growing temperature is between 10-32°C. Generally, apart from the strong light at noon in midsummer, whether in partial sun or full sun, it is suitable for jade necklace growth. Under strong light the leaves grow densely and look more beautiful; if placed in a place with insufficient light for too long, they will become leggy.
2. New String of Bananas
New String of Bananas is a Sedum genus succulent native to Mexico. It hangs down strung together like a string of beads, and looks very elegant hanging in a garden.
Growth habits:
New String of Bananas is cared for the same way as jade necklace; the plant grows creeping and can also be grown hanging. Under strong light the leaves grow densely and look more beautiful; if placed in a place with insufficient light for too long, they will become leggy. As long as there is sunlight, New String of Bananas will grow vigorously, and the stems and leaves will grow longer and longer, gradually forming a trailing type.
3. Stringy Stonecrop
Stringy Stonecrop, also known as Buddha's fingernail, half-branch lotus, etc., is a Crassulaceae succulent found in most parts of China, and is also a traditional Chinese medicine with heat-clearing and detoxifying effects. Stringy Stonecrop is very easy to grow and grows luxuriantly, filling its pot in no time; hung on a balcony, it will hang down like hair.
Growth habits:
Stringy Stonecrop is extremely easy to keep alive, can take full sun, and is drought-tolerant. Its stems can take root as soon as they touch the ground, it grows very quickly, can self-sow and reproduce, and cuttings also root very easily.
4. String of Coins
String of Coins, a Crassulaceae Crassula genus perennial succulent herb, is named because the plant closely resembles strings of ancient coins. Its plant form is peculiar, delicate and lovely, with bright and pleasing colors and an auspicious name; hanging a pot of String of Coins at home will surely bring rolling wealth.
Growth habits:
It prefers a sunny, cool and dry environment, tolerates partial shade, fears waterlogging, and dislikes stuffy, hot and humid conditions. During the growing period it should be given sufficient sunlight; if the light is insufficient the plant will become leggy, the vertical distance between leaves will lengthen, making the plant form loose, and the red color on the leaf edges will also fade, all of which will make the plant look very unattractive; whereas plants grown in sufficient sunlight have a short and sturdy form with compactly arranged stem nodes.
