Small Harvester Advantages Stand Out: A Comprehensive Analysis of Features and Benefits
Small harvesters have irreplaceable advantages over large harvesters, so what are the features and benefits of small harvesters? This article mainly introduces the features, uses, parameters, and classifications of small harvesters, as well as relevant knowledge on the recent status and development trends of small harvesters in China.
Unique Advantages of Small Harvesters
1. Clean harvesting, uniform laying, can be laid in rows or piled.
2. Adapts to plains, hills, terraced fields, triangular plots and other fields of various sizes, as well as muddy fields.
3. Can be used to harvest wheat, rice, highland barley, hemp, beans and other crops. By changing to the corresponding blades and installing upper and lower support plates and safety guards, it can also harvest shrubs, forage grass, reeds, as well as trim tea garden branches and tidy up gardens.
4. Small harvesters are simple to operate and easy to maintain.
5. Fast return on investment; harvesting one mu of paddy field is calculated at 30-40 yuan, and the entire investment can be recovered in a few days.
Small harvesters have broken through the bottleneck in rural areas where large harvesters cannot enter for harvesting operations, advanced the mechanization of harvesting operations, shortened the labor cycle, and freed people from heavy physical labor. They are widely used for harvesting wheat, rice, highland barley, hemp, beans and other crops. By changing to the corresponding blades and installing upper and lower support plates and safety guards, they can also harvest shrubs, forage grass, reeds, as well as trim tea garden branches and gardens. Small harvesters are equipped with gasoline power that is strong and powerful, convenient and practical, highly efficient, and easy to carry and operate in the field. This gasoline engine has the characteristics of low noise, quietness and comfort, so that people everywhere will not feel exhausted even after working for a long time.
Uses of Small Harvesters
Harvesting rice, harvesting wheat, harvesting soybeans, harvesting corn, and laying them in rows or piles! Used for clearing forest land, tending young forests, transforming secondary forests and thinning and harvesting in forest tending, etc., to cut shrubs and weeds, prune branches, and fell small-diameter trees. By equipping the brush cutter with some replaceable additional devices or equipment, it can also be used for harvesting rice, wheat and other crops, as well as pumping water, digging holes and drilling, spraying pesticides and other operations. The research and development of brush cutters is closely related to the development of small power machinery. After World War II, manufacturers producing chainsaws in West Germany, the United States, Sweden and other countries used transmission shafts and cutting working parts as accessories for chainsaws, for use in mowing grass and cutting shrubs. On this basis, Japan introduced and developed a powered harvester.

The 3 Types of Small Powered Harvesters and Their Development Process
Small harvesters are further divided into two types: side-hung and backpack:
① Side-hung small harvester. It adopts hard shaft transmission and is mainly composed of the engine, transmission system, clutch, working parts, control device and side-hung belt, etc. One end of the transmission shaft is equipped with a 0.75-2 kilowatt single-cylinder two-stroke air-cooled gasoline engine and a centrifugal friction clutch; the other end is fitted with working parts composed of a reducer and cutting blades. There are many types of working parts, commonly used ones being circular saw blades, blades or nylon line. During operation, hang the hook ring on the aluminum alloy sleeve of the transmission shaft onto the shoulder strap under the operator's shoulder, hold the handle, and swing the hard shaft horizontally to complete operations such as cutting weeds and shrubs. The machine weighs about 6-12 kilograms, with a speed of about 4500-5000 rpm.
② Backpack powered harvester. It uses flexible shaft transmission, and its general structure is similar to the side-hung brush cutter, except that its engine is carried on the operator's back and the cutting parts are driven by a flexible shaft; the engine power is generally 0.75-1.2 kilowatts. The engine and the backpack frame are connected at two points and are fitted with specially made rubber parts for vibration isolation. The flexible shaft is a steel wire flexible shaft sleeved inside a hose, used to transmit torque. The hose is a threaded tube wrapped with steel strip covered by a metal braided mesh with a rubber protective sleeve, to prevent dust from entering the shaft and to maintain the lubricating oil on the shaft surface. The cutting width is generally between 1.5-2 meters.
Walk-behind Small Harvester
The weight of the machine is supported by walking wheels, it is advanced by human pushing, and the working parts are driven by the engine to carry out brush cutting operations. Its structure and working principle are similar to those of the portable brush cutter.
Suspended Small Harvester
It is suspended behind a tractor, and the working parts are driven to rotate by the power output shaft, suitable for large-area brush cutting operations. It is mainly composed of a frame, saw blade, transmission device, suspension device and push plate, etc. During brush cutting operations, the tractor travels in reverse, with a working speed of 5 km/h, and can saw shrubs with a diameter of 10 cm.
Recent Status and Development Trends of Small Harvesters in China
In recent years, wheat combine harvesters have developed rapidly, with increasingly mature technology and increasingly reasonable structures, but further development faces huge challenges in applicability. Small combine harvesters have their own unique applicability, and therefore have their own market tier.
An essential tool for farmers in mountainous areas to get rich
Jingxing County, Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province is a mountainous county, planting 1.07 million hm2 of wheat annually, mostly in mountainous areas, with small and irregular plots. For many years the county had only 100 combine harvesters, but in 2000 small combine harvesters sold well in the Jingxing mountainous area. The reasons:
① The topographical characteristics of mountainous areas make only small machines applicable.
② Farmers in mountainous areas have shifted some labor to businesses such as mining and burning lime and doing transport, and their income has increased somewhat, so they have purchasing power.
The price of machine-harvested wheat is low, users feel it is cost-effective, and machine owners believe they can get rich, so small combine harvesters are attractive. In 2000, even with reduced charging for harvester operations, the average income per machine could still reach more than 8000 yuan.
