Why Malaysian Durian Is Rated the World's Most Delicious Fruit? With Key Cultivation Techniques
When it comes to durian, the most widely known variety is probably Thailand's Monthong. In fact, as the homeland of durian, Malaysia is the true holy land of durian. Next, let's talk about why Malaysian durian is rated as the world's most delicious fruit?
1. Malaysia, with its natural yet unique geographical and climatic environment, produces the most authentic and primitive king of fruits -- durian. Malaysian durian will let you truly experience the supreme royal taste of the king of fruits.
2. Malaysia has numerous durian varieties: Musang King (D197), Red Prawn (D175), Hor Lor (D163), Sultan (D24), Red Flesh (D101), Orange Flesh (D88), and more.
3. Malaysians strictly follow the old rule that one can only wait for the durian to ripen and fall naturally, and it must not be picked by hand. Therefore, it is impossible to carry out a series of industrialized operations such as artificial ripening during transportation. Thanks to this, Malaysian durian has never been ashamed to compare itself with durian from other countries. Thai durian is picked by hand from the tree before it ripens and then ripened in a closed container.
4. Malaysian durian is not exported; at most it reaches Singapore, which in fact is no different from locally. It can only be eaten in Malaysia and Singapore, and cannot be eaten anywhere else. What is more, top-grade durian must be reserved in advance to be eaten, which shows how precious it is. A few years ago during Chinese New Year, Macao gambling tycoon Ho Hung-sun used a private plane to transport 100 Musang Kings from Singapore Airport back to Hong Kong, and was only willing to give 10 of them to the then Chief Executive Donald Tsang.
Durian also sounds like "lingering longing": after eating it, one simply cannot stop and is reluctant to leave.
Cultivation techniques:
1. Sowing
The sowing spacing between plants and rows should preferably be 20 cm x 20 cm. During the seedling growth period, attention should be paid to weeding, combined with fertilization, to promote seedling growth. Excellent mother plants can be propagated by air layering, which roots very easily; from girdling the branch to a grown seedling takes only 60-70 days.
2. Planting seedling height
They can be planted out when 30-40 cm tall, preferably at a spacing of 3 m x 5 m, with organic fertilizer, farmyard manure and an appropriate amount of lime applied as base fertilizer. Planting can be done throughout the year, and planting with the soil ball attached is best.
3. Fertilization management
Fruiting trees should be fertilized mainly once a year, namely the spring flower-bud fertilizer, the summer fruit-swelling fertilizer and the pre-harvest fertilizer, with particular attention to applying the fruit-swelling fertilizer well. After harvest, apply organic fertilizer once deeply.
4. Shaping and pruning
Because its sprouting ability is very strong, attention should be paid to shaping 1-2 years after planting, and timely pruning after harvest, to maintain a good tree shape.
5. Harvesting the fruit
The fruit is mature and can be harvested when it turns orange-yellow or orange-red. After harvest, the fruit cannot be eaten fresh directly; it needs 4-7 days of after-ripening until the flesh becomes soft before it can be eaten.
