The key to feijoa planting lies in its requirements for the growing environment, especially the growing temperature. Feijoa contains a large amount of vitamin C. It is not only eaten as a fruit, but can usually also be made into smoothies, ice cream, juice drinks, jam, etc., and can also be infused into vodka to become a fruit-flavored liquor.

1. Suitable Growing Environment

The feijoa tree likes sunlight and warmth. The minimum overwintering temperature is above -9 degrees. It grows well in a greenhouse at 5-10 degrees. It does not have very high soil requirements and is suitable for planting in fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Therefore, feijoa planting is best done in spring when the temperature is between 15-25 degrees Celsius. For example, layering carried out from early March to April can begin in early April.

2. Planting Techniques

The feijoa produces new shoots in all four seasons. The fruiting branches are spring shoots, and the main fruiting mother branches are the autumn shoots produced in the previous year. The fruiting branches grow from the 3-5 buds at the top of the previous year's autumn shoot branches.

For fruit trees, scientific fertilization is key. The best time to apply base fertilizer to fruit trees is after fruit harvest in autumn. If base fertilizer is applied before spring germination, the fertilizer effect develops slowly, has little effect on spring flowering, fruit setting and new shoot growth, and later will cause excessive tree growth, affecting flower bud differentiation and fruit development.

It is recommended to apply as little base fertilizer as possible and to spray more foliar fertilizer plus Xingaozhim(o) [new high-lipid film], while also combining it with spring irrigation and topdressing chemical fertilizer, mainly nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer, with an appropriate amount of potassium fertilizer. To promote flowering and fruit setting, large fruiting trees should be topdressed once with nitrogen fertilizer from early March to early April, or sprayed with foliar fertilizer plus Xingaozhim(o) [new high-lipid film]. Before flowering, at the young fruit stage, and at the fruit expansion stage, spray Zhuangguodiling [fruit-thickening pedicel spirit] once each time to thicken the fruit stalk and increase the amount of nutrient transport. Prevent flower drop, fruit drop, fruit cracking, stiff fruit, and deformed fruit, so that the fruit has bright coloration, beautiful fruit shape, and good taste.
