Hongyun Dangtou (Guzmania) is a common ornamental flower in homes, evergreen all year round, with beautiful and varied inflorescences and rich colors. Many flower lovers are familiar with it, so when is the best time to divide Hongyun Dangtou? How do you divide it?

The time to divide Hongyun Dangtou is suitable in April each year, and the offsets should have more than 6 leaves before they are suitable for division; roots form easily at temperatures above 30°C.

Division method

Remove the mother plant from the flowerpot and break off the new offsets by hand. If the offsets are so close to the rhizome that they cannot be broken off by hand, you can also cut them off with a sharp knife.

If the new offsets show no roots, the cut is best trimmed into a smooth flat edge, which helps rooting. Apply plant ash to the wound promptly to disinfect it, and place it in a cool, ventilated spot. Plant it after the wound has dried and shrunk.

Tips:

The growing conditions for Hongyun Dangtou are also very important, first of all light. To make the bromeliad leaves bright in color and bloom regularly, light is very important; in winter there must be at least 4 to 5 hours of direct sunlight every day. On overcast and rainy days, you can use lights to increase the light. In summer, the seedling pots should be placed in the shade of trees; for indoor cultivation, shade nets can also be set up as needed.

As for watering, Hongyun Dangtou likes a humid environment; on ordinary days, just keep the potting soil moist, and generally do not water on overcast and rainy days.

Red spots are a symptom of brown spot disease, and strong fungicides such as carbendazim or prochloraz, Amistar, and agricultural streptomycin need to be sprayed promptly for prevention and control. This is because the timing of spraying water is chosen too late; do not spray water after the evening, as it easily breeds pathogens, and no water should remain on the leaf surface at night.
