What Fertilizer Is Best for Planting Garlic? Do These Four Things Well to Achieve High Yield
Garlic is one of the most common foods on our daily dining tables; it can be eaten raw or used for seasoning. It is also a very easy crop to grow, and as long as fertilizer management is done well, a high yield of garlic can be obtained. So, what fertilizer is generally best for planting garlic? The following four points must all be grasped.
What fertilizer is generally best for planting garlic?
1. Garlic fertilization should be based mainly on base fertilizer, supplemented by topdressing; based mainly on high-quality organic fertilizer, supplemented by chemical fertilizer.
2. Garlic base fertilizer: when preparing the land, apply 3000-3500kg/mu of decomposed farmyard manure, 50kg/mu of calcium superphosphate, and 30kg/mu of garlic-specific compound fertilizer; the fertilizer and soil must be mixed evenly.
3. Garlic topdressing: throughout the entire growth period, according to the fertilizer requirements and growth conditions of garlic, garlic with bulbs and garlic scapes as the target products generally needs 2-3 topdressings.
4. The first time, at the mother-plant degeneration stage (4-5 leaves), mainly with N fertilizer, apply 15-20kg of urea per mu.
5. The second time, at the bulb enlargement stage (9-10 leaves), that is, when the garlic scapes are about to reveal their bracts, apply a heavy topdressing once, with 10-15kg of urea per mu and 30-40kg of potassium sulfate-type compound fertilizer (15:15:15).
6. The third time, when about 50% of the scapes have been harvested, apply 15-20kg/mu of potassium sulfate-type compound fertilizer (15:15:15). Garlic with garlic sprouts as the target product should only be given the mother-plant degeneration fertilizer, and no topdressing is allowed within 30 days before harvesting the green garlic sprouts. Each fertilization should be carried out together with irrigation.
7. In addition, in early April of the second year of garlic planting, in combination with watering to strengthen the seedlings, apply 10kg of quick-acting urea fertilizer by flushing per 667 square meters. In mid-April, dissolve 0.5kg of potassium dihydrogen phosphate in 50kg of water and spray it per 667 square meters.
Four Points for Harvesting High-Yield, High-Volume Garlic
1. Land preparation and fertilization: choose a fertile field facing the sun, sheltered from the wind, convenient for drainage and irrigation, and with strong water and fertilizer retention; remove the residues of the previous crop, plow and sun the soil in time, water the bottom thoroughly, and apply sufficient base fertilizer (apply 5000-8000 kg of high-quality organic fertilizer per mu, and 20-30 kg of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer); before sowing, keep the bed surface level, loose, and soft.
2. Sowing and seedling raising: sow at the right time and with a reasonable density; before sowing, dress the seeds with Xinguozhimo (which can repel underground pests and diseases, isolate viral infection, strengthen seed respiration intensity, and increase the seed germination rate); the suitable sowing depth is generally 3-4 cm. After sowing, water thoroughly; to prevent drought, at the same time spray 800-fold Xinguozhimo solution to preserve heat and moisture, prevent soil crusting, and increase the emergence rate.
3. Field management: according to the growth requirements of garlic, water and topdress in a timely manner, carry out intertillage and weeding, spray Zhuangjingling in time during the growth period, and also spray Diguo Zhuangdiling during the scape-bearing stage so that the nutrient transport ducts of the underground bulbs become thicker, improve the vigor of underground bulb enlargement, enhance the disease resistance of the plants, and increase garlic yield.
4. Pest and disease control: during the garlic growth period, diseases such as leaf blight, dry rot, gray mold, and viral disease are likely to occur. According to plant protection requirements, spray targeted agents in time (such as 20% Bingdu Kexing, 40% Shijiale suspension concentrate, 50% Duofu wettable powder) to kill the targeted pests and diseases, and at the same time spray 800-fold Xinguozhimo solution to enhance the efficacy.
The Effects and Functions of Garlic
1. Strong sterilization: the sulfur compounds contained in garlic have extremely strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, and have inhibitory and killing effects on many kinds of cocci, bacilli, fungi, and viruses. It is currently the strongest antibacterial substance found among natural plants.
2. Lowering blood sugar: garlic can promote the secretion of insulin, increase the absorption of glucose by tissue cells, improve the human body's glucose tolerance, rapidly lower blood sugar levels in the body, and can kill various bacteria that induce diabetes due to infection, thereby effectively preventing and treating diabetes.
3. Preventing colds: garlic contains a pungent substance called “allyl sulfide”, which has a good killing effect on pathogenic bacteria and parasites, can prevent colds, and reduce cold symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, and nasal congestion.
4. Liver protection: the trace element selenium in garlic participates in the aerobic metabolism of blood, removes toxins, reduces the liver's detoxification burden, and thereby achieves the purpose of protecting the liver.
5. Detoxification and intestinal cleansing: garlic can effectively inhibit and kill bacteria and viruses such as Helicobacter pylori that cause gastrointestinal diseases, remove toxic substances in the gastrointestinal tract, stimulate the gastrointestinal mucosa, promote appetite, and accelerate digestion.
