In which month do fresh grey jujubes ripen and get picked for market?
Grey jujube is a type of jujube; its surface looks as if it has a layer of frost, which is why it is called grey jujube. It generally begins to ripen and reach the market in late September, but in Ruoqiang it is usually harvested all at once, so in which month do fresh grey jujubes ripen? When do they reach the market? When are they picked?
Time to market
Grey jujubes reach the market in late September, when the large jujubes are crisp, sweet and juicy. Dried jujubes need to ripen from around October 20 to after the first frost, when the large jujubes have good colour and high sugar content.
When are grey jujubes picked
The picking time for Ruoqiang grey jujubes is set uniformly by the government, and farmers cannot harvest early. The government generally sets the red jujube harvest time in mid-to-late October of each Gregorian calendar year.
It is reported that Ruoqiang red jujubes are picked slightly later each year than in other places; Ruoqiang red jujubes that dry naturally on the tree can fully accumulate sugar, trace elements and other components, reaching the optimal state and guaranteeing the quality of the red jujubes.
However, because varieties differ, the picking time also differs, generally starting in mid-September. The fruit is harvested in autumn when ripe. Impurities are picked out clean and it is sun-dried. Or it is baked until the skin is soft and then sun-dried. Or it is first boiled briefly in water so that the flesh becomes soft while the skin has not yet shrivelled, then it is scooped out and sun-dried.
Picking method attached:
Materials to prepare: umbrellas, bamboo poles, plastic sheeting.
Have you thought of the picking method? It is quite fun.
Bamboo pole requirements: slender, light in weight, thin at the tip but not easy to break.
Try to wait for a dry, fine-weather day to go and pick the jujubes; the weather should not be too hot.
Umbrella requirements: the more the better, and the larger the canopy the better.
Choosing a sunny day is also to keep the umbrellas from getting dirty easily.
Plastic sheeting requirements: the larger the area the better.
Its main job is the work of spreading it on the ground.
Starting to pick: spread the huge plastic sheeting on the ground, keeping it as far as appropriate from the tree trunk; the jujubes fall outward.
Then turn all the umbrellas upside down on the ground to catch them.
Then, use the bamboo pole to knock, with the aim of making the jujubes fall into the umbrellas.
