What Is the Corn Yield per Mu? A Detailed Guide to Planting Time and High-Yield Varieties
Corn, also known as maize, bangzi, baogu, baomi, baosu and so on, is an important food crop and feed crop. So what is the yield per mu of land planted with it? In which month is it planted? What high-yield varieties are there? From Mr. Wang in Hunan we learned that many factors determine corn yield, and differences in geographical environment, variety, cultivation and management techniques and so on can all lead to different corn yields. In southern regions, the highest yield per mu can reach more than 900 kg. For corn planted on a large scale, where cultivation input is not high and management is less meticulous, the average yield per mu over large areas is around 650 kg. If planted in high-altitude areas, the yield is less than 500 kg.
In which month is corn planted?
1. According to different planting times, corn is divided into spring corn and autumn corn. Spring corn is sown in late April to early May and can be harvested in late August. Autumn corn must be sown no later than mid-July and is harvested in mid-to-late October. Over the course of its life, corn can be divided into several different growth stages according to morphological characteristics, reproductive features and physiological characteristics. Each stage includes different growth periods, and these different stages and periods both have their own characteristics and are closely linked.
2. Corn is a high-yield crop with a relatively large fertilizer requirement, so rational fertilization is necessary to meet corn's nutrient needs throughout the entire growth period. According to experiments, producing 100 kg of corn grain requires 2.5 kg of nitrogen, 1 kg of phosphorus and 2.1 kg of potassium. If the yield per mu is 500 kg of corn, each mu requires about 33 kg of urea, or 50 kg of ammonium nitrate, 31 kg of superphosphate and 13 kg of potassium sulfate.
What high-yield corn varieties are there?
1. Longgao L2
The high-yield corn variety Longgao L2 is known for yielding a ton of grain per mu (667 sq m) and for its iron-like stalks that resist lodging. Under good high water and fertilizer conditions, Longgao L2 set a high-yield record of 32,000 jin per hectare, which is praised by the industry.
2. Liangyu 99
Approval number: Guoshenyu 2012008.
Liangyu 99 is a density-tolerant variety. Its spring sowing growth period is about 135 days, plant height is 270 cm, ear height is 100 cm, and the plant type is compact. The ear is conical, ear length is 400px, ear row number is 16-18 rows, the kernels are yellow and dent type, the quality is good, the 100-kernel weight is 36.5 g, and the cob is red. It is planted on plots with medium fertility or above. The suitable density for spring sowing is 4000-4500 plants/mu, and the general yield per mu is 700 kg. It is suitable for planting in most late-maturing corn regions of Liaoning.
