Bamboo fungus, also known as bamboo mushroom and bamboo ginseng, is rich in nutrients, has a strong fragrance, and a delicious taste. Since ancient times it has been listed as one of the "Eight Treasures of Herbs." Bamboo fungus, also known as bamboo mushroom and bamboo ginseng, is rich in nutrients, has a strong fragrance, and a delicious taste. Since ancient times it has been listed as one of the “Eight Treasures of Herbs.” Let's take a look below at what kind of growth environment bamboo fungus is suited to, and how to prepare the culture medium.

1. What kind of growth environment is bamboo fungus suited to?

Bamboo fungus is a typical mesophilic fungus. The growth temperature of the mycelium is 4-28°C, with the optimum temperature being 20-23°C; below 16°C or above 36°C, growth is slow. The fruiting body formation temperature is 17-29°C, with 20-24°C being suitable, and the optimum temperature being 22°C; above 28°C, growth is slow and the growth vigor is weak; above 35°C, growth stops; below 15°C, development slows down, and the fungal balls shrink or become deformed. The temperature referred to here is the ambient temperature at which the mycelium and fruiting bodies grow, that is, the temperature of the culture medium at a depth of 5-20 cm underground and the temperature at a depth of 1-30 cm underground where the fruiting bodies differentiate. Because at the same time there is a relatively large difference between surface and underground temperatures, under normal circumstances the surface temperature is higher than the underground temperature, and the deeper below the surface, the lower the temperature. This point should be noted during cultivation.

2. How to prepare the culture medium?

1. Spawn preparation

Formula and preparation of the mother spawn culture medium.

① Culture medium formula: peptone 1%, glucose 1%, agar 2%, water 100 ml. pH value 5-6.

② Potato 25%, glucose 2%, agar 2%, water 100 ml. pH value 5-6. Culture medium preparation: prepare according to conventional methods, fill tubes, sterilize, and make slants.

2. Stock spawn preparation

First, crushed bamboo pieces (1-2 cm) 65%, sawdust 15%, bran 20%, add water until the moisture content of the culture material is 65%. Second, miscellaneous chips 75%, bran 20%, sugar 1%, gypsum 1%, soybean cake powder 3%, add water and adjust until the moisture content of the culture material is 60-65%.

According to conventional spawn-making methods, mix the ingredients, fill bottles, sterilize, inoculate, and culture. At a temperature of 18-23°C, the stock spawn takes about 60 days to grow fully in the bottles, and the cultivation spawn grows well after 40-50 days.
