Longan, also known as Guiyuan, is a fairly common tonic in China. It not only helps lower blood lipids but also has beauty-enhancing and anti-aging effects, which is why it is very popular among women. So when do longan fruits ripen? Can potted plants grown from seed bear fruit?

Longan ripening time:

The ripening period of longan varies by region and variety. Generally, Thai longan ripens in late May; Guangzhou longan ripens in mid-July; Guangxi longan ripens from early July to early August; Fujian longan ripens from late July to late August. In addition, different varieties have different ripening periods. For example, among the superior varieties, “Fuyan” ripens from late August to early September; “Dongbi” ripens in late August; “Wulongling” ripens in early September; “Songfengben” ripens from late September to early October; “Lidongben” ripens in late October.

Will potted plants grown from seed bear fruit?

They may or may not bear fruit, depending on whether you know how to grow them. The reason they may not bear fruit could be that, after being potted, the area available for nutrient uptake is limited, reducing the plant's ability to absorb fertilizer and water. Combined with insufficient light and other factors, it is difficult for the plant's vegetative growth and reproductive growth to reach a balance, making problems such as weak tree vigor, slow growth and failure to bear fruit more likely.

Appendix: How to grow longan in pots

1. First, wash the longan seeds you have eaten clean and remove all the flesh. If the flesh is not cleaned off, the water tends to smell bad and the seeds tend to spoil. Soak them in clean water for a full seven days, changing the clean water every day.

2. After soaking for a full seven days, the longan seeds will split open with a crack.

3. First put nutrient soil into the pot, and water the nutrient soil thoroughly.

4. Place the longan seeds with the sprouting opening facing up, and plant them in tight circles on top.

5. Then cover the surface of the longan seeds with a thin layer of nutrient soil, spray it thoroughly with water, then cover it with small stones, press down with your hand, and spray the stone layer with water until thoroughly wet.

6. Place it in the living room or on a desk and simply wait for it to sprout. There is no need to take it directly to the balcony for sunlight.
