Prickly ash seeds, also called prickly ash powder, are a product made by extracting the aroma and flavor compounds from prickly ash into edible vegetable oil. So about how much is the price of prickly ash seeds per jin? What can they be used for? Can they be planted? How are they planted? According to a Jiangxi seed company, the price of prickly ash seeds is about 60--70 yuan/jin, with a sowing rate of 10--12 jin per mu, and they can be sown in spring, summer and autumn.

What can prickly ash seeds be used for?

1. At the very least, prickly ash seeds are seeds and can be used for raising seedlings;

2. The alpha-linolenic acid content in prickly ash seeds is as high as 30%, and alpha-linolenic acid has effects such as lowering blood lipids, softening blood vessels, benefiting the brain, and promoting collateral circulation and blood flow, so using prickly ash seeds to extract alpha-linolenic acid is also a good choice;

3. Prickly ash seeds are rich in oil, so prickly ash oil can be extracted from them, and the by-products can be used to make biological fertilizer;

4. Although prickly ash is good for seasoning, when prickly ash seeds are used for seasoning, they do not have as strong an aroma as prickly ash itself.

Can prickly ash seeds be planted? How are they planted?

Prickly ash seeds can be planted.

1. Seed treatment:

Seed treatment: The seed coat of prickly ash is hard, oily and impermeable, making germination relatively difficult, so before sowing the seeds must first be degreased and stored. For autumn sowing, soak the seeds in alkaline water, using 0.025 kg of alkaline powder for 1 kg of seeds, adding water until the seeds are submerged, remove the empty and shriveled grains, soak for 2 days, rub and wash off the oil on the seed coat, then scoop them out, rinse clean with clear water and sow. For spring sowing, several methods can be used to treat the seeds, such as stratified sand storage, mixing with cow dung, mixing and piling with horse dung, or storage in a small pit. Stratified sand storage is the conventional treatment method; mixing with cow dung means using 6 parts fresh cow dung and 1 part prickly ash seeds, mixing them evenly, burying them in a pit 30 cm deep for winter storage, then taking them out the following spring before sowing, breaking them up, and sowing together with the cow dung; mixing and piling with horse dung is done from mid-March to mid-April, placing water-selected prickly ash seeds mixed with 3 parts horse dung in a pile in the sun, turning them, and sowing after they show white; storage in a small pit means digging a pit, filling it with water, and storing the seeds over winter.

2. Sowing: Sowing is divided into spring sowing and autumn sowing. In spring-drought areas, sowing before the soil freezes in autumn is better, as seedlings emerge uniformly and 10-15 days earlier than with spring sowing; spring sowing is generally around the time of “Spring Equinox”. Sow 25 kg per mu. For small-bed seedling raising, drilling in furrows can be used, with 4 rows per bed, a row spacing of 20 cm, a furrow depth of 5 cm, and 1 cm of covering soil, sowing 4-6 kg per mu; after sowing, cover the bed surface with grass to retain moisture, and remove it in stages after emergence. The ridge-building method can also be used for seedling raising; for autumn sowing, open a furrow 1 cm deep and 9 cm wide every 24-27 cm, evenly scatter the seeds into the furrow, and after sowing bank the soil from both sides onto the furrow. After spring begins, check the seed germination in time; if a few seeds have split open, scrape away part of the covering soil, leaving 2-3 cm; after 5-7 days, when most seeds have split open, scrape away more covering soil and keep the covering soil about 1 cm thick, so that the seedlings will soon emerge completely. If spring sowing uses seeds that have been pregerminated, the seedlings can emerge 4-5 days after sowing and be complete in about 10 days. This method is suitable for areas prone to spring drought.

3. Seedling-stage management: When the seedlings are 4-5 cm tall, thin and finalize them, keeping a spacing of 10-15 cm. During seedling growth, in June-July, apply 3000-4500 kg of human excrement and urine per mu, or 10-25 kg of chemical fertilizer; fertilization should be combined with irrigation, and after application, cultivate and weed in time. Prickly ash seedlings are most afraid of waterlogging; when the rainy season comes, the nursery must do a good job of waterlogging prevention and drainage. One-year-old seedlings 70-100 cm tall can be lifted from the nursery for afforestation.
