When should they be sown? How are they planted? What is their flower language? According to Jiujiang Seed Company, clover seed prices are around 45 yuan/jin.

When should clover seeds be sown?

As for the timing, in the north they can be planted from February to September, while in the south they can be sown year-round. The seeding rate of 12-15 grams per sq m is appropriate; do not be greedy with more, nor too little. For slope greening, they can be broadcast directly, then covered with degradable non-woven fabric. In parks and residential communities, they are also broadcast directly, with soil cover not exceeding 1cm thick. If watering conditions are good, water once every 3-5 days, deciding on your own according to weather conditions. If watering conditions are poor, it is recommended to broadcast after rain. Generally, all seeds can germinate within 10-20 days.

How are clover seeds planted?

1. Land preparation: Since white clover seeds are very small and have weak soil-emergence ability, the land for sowing white clover requires fine tilling. Before sowing, level the land and rake it fine to facilitate seed germination and seedling emergence. Ensure drainage and flood prevention, and irrigation facilities; after sowing, the terrain should not be disturbed.

2. Fertilization: White clover is not tolerant of heavy fertilizer. Excessive fertility easily leads to over-luxuriant growth, lodging, rot and other conditions. So under normal circumstances, fertilize once each in early spring and early autumn within a year, with the amount considered as appropriate. Fertilization should focus on phosphorus and potassium fertilizers; applying a small amount of nitrogen fertilizer helps strengthen seedlings.

3. Field management: White clover grows at a moderate rate during the seedling stage and is vulnerable to weed invasion. At this time, fertilization and watering should be combined to promote faster growth of the seedlings; once grown, they can withstand weed damage. During the seedling stage, weeds should be removed frequently, especially for spring-sown ones. White clover has few diseases, though brown patch and powdery mildew sometimes occur; you can first mow, then use Bordeaux mixture, lime sulfur mixture or carbendazim for control. White clover has relatively many insect pests, especially white grubs and snails, which cause serious damage. For white grubs, the selected pesticide is 50% isofenphos-methyl, applied at 3 kg per mu diluted in 3 tons of water, sprayed in mid-April and from late July to early August respectively. After spraying, water promptly so that the pesticide solution soaks through 7-10 cm of the ground; the white grubs die after contacting the treated soil. This method is still not ideal for a small number of older larvae. For snails, spraying insecticides has very poor control effect; however, using snail-killing granules scattered on the lawn in the evening gives very good results, with a kill rate of over 90%.
