The pomegranate is warm in nature and sweet, sour and astringent in taste, entering the lung, kidney and large intestine meridians;
It has the effects of promoting fluid production and quenching thirst, astringing and securing, and stopping diarrhea and bleeding;
It mainly treats conditions such as dry mouth and throat due to fluid deficiency, excessive thirst, chronic diarrhea, chronic dysentery, bloody stool and abnormal uterine bleeding.
3. Nutrition
The pomegranate fruit is like little red gems, and the arils are sweet, sour, tasty and juicy, with high nutritional value. They are rich in fruit sugars, high-quality protein, easily absorbed fats and so on, and can supplement the body's energy and calories without increasing the body's burden. The fruit contains vitamin C and B vitamins, organic acids, sugars, protein, fat and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and potassium, and can supplement trace elements and nutrients that the body lacks. It is also rich in various acids, including organic acids and folic acid, which have health benefits for the human body. Not only is the pomegranate fruit rich in nutrients, but its leaves and seeds are also very valuable.
The pomegranate contains a variety of nutrients: 17% carbohydrates, 79% water and 13-17% sugar. Its vitamin C content is 1-2 times higher than that of apples, while its fat and protein contents are relatively low, and the fruit is mainly eaten fresh.
4. Ornamental value
The tree has a graceful form and elegant branches and leaves. In early spring the tender leaves emerge green and graceful; in midsummer it is full of blooming flowers in vivid colors; in autumn the heavy fruits hang on the tree. It can be planted alone or in groups in courtyards and at the corners of parks, planted in pairs at entrances, or planted in rows along paths, beside streams, on slopes and next to buildings. It is also suitable for making various stump bonsai and for cut-flower arrangements in vases.[9]

Anthocyanins are so far the substances that can be extracted from food to protect the skin around the eyes. Because the pomegranate contains anthocyanins, eating more pomegranates can protect the eyes. However, it contains a high level of organic salts, so after eating it you must brush your teeth promptly, otherwise it will corrode tooth enamel.

How should a pomegranate tree be cared for?
I. Water and fertilizer management
Pomegranates have a very large demand for water and fertilizer. If fertilizer deficiency occurs, it will cause a reduction in yield. Therefore, fertilizer should be applied at the right time and in the right amount to replenish the tree's nutrients in time and promote fruit enlargement and flower bud differentiation. Fertilization can use a complete-element chemical fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and trace elements, preferably combined with organic fertilizer. The amount of fertilizer applied should account for two-thirds of the annual total, and after fertilizing, water should be applied promptly and in the right amount. At the same time, foliar spraying can be adopted, spraying a 1% urea solution, or a 0.3% monopotassium phosphate solution, or a 500-fold dilution of Yongye Life Element, for better results.
II. Pest and disease control
1. Aphids. Spray 10% imidacloprid at 1500 times, or 5% acetamiprid at 1500 times, or 50% pirimicarb at 1500 times.
2. Red spider mites. Spray 15% pyridaben at 1500 times, or 1.8% abamectin at 3000-4000 times.
3. Green plant bugs. Spray 48% chlorpyrifos at 1200 times, or 4.5% beta-cypermethrin at 1500 times, or 24% methomyl at 1000 times.
III. Pruning
1. Remove root suckers. The pomegranate tree has a multi-trunk tree form, and root suckers are very likely to sprout from the roots. Root suckers compete with the parent plant for nutrients, causing a decline in the tree's nutritional level, which is not conducive to the normal growth of the pomegranate tree. The root suckers should be removed from the base in time, without leaving stubs, otherwise even more root suckers will sprout.
2. Bend branches to open the angle. For vigorously growing new shoots, bend and weigh down the branches, and pull the main branches with a small opening angle and the vigorously growing upright new shoots into a horizontal or drooping position by pulling them or running them through with the hand, so as to moderate vegetative growth and promote flower bud formation.
3. Thin branches to improve light. Remove upright branches, crossing branches and overlapping branches from the base to improve ventilation and light conditions. For main branches that grow excessively vigorously, the method of heading back and letting a weaker branch lead can be adopted to balance the tree's vigor.
