Winter Jasmine's Summer Blooming Time, Seedling Prices, Planting Methods and Differences from Winter Jasmine Explained
Both winter jasmine's summer bloom and winter jasmine are semi-evergreen small shrubs of the Oleaceae family, plants of the Jasminum genus of the Oleaceae family, and endemic plants of China. Winter jasmine's summer bloom is also known as Tanchun. So when does winter jasmine's summer bloom generally bloom? How much does a seedling cost per plant? How is it planted? What is the difference from winter jasmine? According to the Suqian nursery stock and flower base, the price of winter jasmine's summer bloom seedlings is 0.7-1.5 yuan.
When does winter jasmine's summer bloom generally bloom?
Winter jasmine's summer bloom is also known as Tanchun. In late spring and early summer, the branches are full of flowers; it is an endemic plant of China. It is relatively similar to the same-genus plant winter jasmine, with the difference being that winter jasmine blooms earlier than winter jasmine's summer bloom, and winter jasmine's summer bloom has alternate leaves, while winter jasmine has opposite leaves. Winter jasmine's summer bloom is a semi-evergreen shrub, 1-3m tall. The branchlets are green, angular, with odd-pinnate compound leaves arranged alternately. The branches are upright or spreading; young branches are green, smooth and angular. The leaves are alternate; the leaflets are usually 3, occasionally 5 or a single leaf, ovate-oblong, 1-3.5cm long, with acuminate tips and recurved margins, hairless. The cyme is terminal and many-flowered; the calyx has 5 linear lobes, equal in length to the calyx tube; the corolla is yellow, with 5 ovate lobes, about 1/2 the length of the corolla tube. The berry is nearly round. The flowering period is May-June.
How is winter jasmine's summer bloom planted?
1. Winter jasmine's summer bloom has strong adaptability and is relatively easy to cultivate; it likes warm, humid, sunny locations, and also grows very well in semi-shade, with lush branches and abundant flowers, suitable for both pot cultivation and ground planting. Propagation can be done by cuttings or layering, with the same methods as winter jasmine. Apply dried manure or compound fertilizer once each year after flowering and at the beginning of winter as a base fertilizer, and during the growing season apply liquid fertilizer several more times according to growth conditions; after flowering, prune off the remaining flower stalks, and properly shorten the vigorously growing branch tips to promote fuller branch development. Ground-planted specimens should be in places with higher terrain and good drainage and ventilation; for potted plants, prevent water accumulation in the pot during the rainy season, and water alternately dry and wet, not allowing it to become too dry. In midsummer, place it in tree shade or semi-shade to avoid direct strong light, otherwise, exposed to high temperature and dryness, the leaf tips will wither. In winter, place it in a wind-sheltered, sunny spot, ensuring only that the pot soil does not become too dry.
2. Cuttings are the main method, but layering and division can also be used for propagation. For cuttings, they can be done in spring, summer, and autumn; cut semi-lignified branches 12-15 cm long, insert them into sandy soil, keep moist, and they will root in about 15 days. For layering, shallowly bury longer branches in sandy soil without wounding, and after 40-50 days they will root; separate them from the mother plant and transplant in the following spring. For division, it can be done when buds sprout in spring. When transplanting in spring, cut off part of the aboveground branches and trunks, and keep the original soil. During growth, be careful that the soil neither accumulates water nor becomes excessively dry, and apply fertilizer appropriately 2-3 times before and after flowering. In autumn and winter, prune and shape to keep the plant fresh and full of flowers. Common diseases and insect pests include leaf spot and twig blight, which can be sprayed with 50% Tuzet wettable powder at 1500 times dilution. Insect pests include aphids and bagworms, which can be killed by spraying with 50% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times dilution.
What is the difference between winter jasmine's summer bloom and winter jasmine?
1. The bark is different. Winter jasmine bark has a green-red reddish flush, while winter jasmine's summer bloom bark is grayish-brown with no flush.
2. The flowering period is different. The flowering period of winter jasmine is March, blooming before leafing out, while the flowering period of winter jasmine's summer bloom is May, leafing out before blooming.
3. The flowering habit is different. Winter jasmine flowers are solitary on the previous year's branches, while winter jasmine's summer bloom flowers are arranged in terminal cymes.
