The Benefits and Differences of Using Organic Fertilizer and Chemical Fertilizer Together in Agricultural Production
Organic fertilizers mainly come from plants and/or animals, while chemical fertilizers are made by chemical and/or physical methods. But both provide nutrients to crops. So in agricultural production, what are the benefits of using organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer together? What are their differences?
In agricultural production, what are the benefits of using organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer together?
As everyone knows, for a long time we have farmed using only chemical fertilizers, which has caused many problems in the soil today, and in serious cases has even harmed our living environment. At present, China strongly advocates increasing the application of organic fertilizer, which means fertilization should be carried out with organic fertilizer combined with inorganic fertilizer (chemical fertilizer). It has the following advantages:
1. Chemical fertilizers have a high nutrient content and a quick fertilizer effect, but a short duration and a single nutrient. Organic fertilizer is just the opposite. Mixing organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer can make up for each other's shortcomings and meet the crop's nutrient needs at every growth stage.
2. After chemical fertilizer is applied to the soil, some nutrients are absorbed or fixed by the soil, which reduces the availability of the nutrients. When mixed with organic fertilizer, however, the contact area between the chemical fertilizer and the soil can be reduced, the probability of the chemical fertilizer being fixed by the soil is reduced, and the availability of the nutrients is improved.
3. Generally, chemical fertilizers have high solubility, and after application they create a relatively high osmotic pressure in the soil, which affects the crop's absorption of nutrients and water and increases the chance of nutrient loss. If mixed with organic fertilizer, it can promote the crop's absorption of nutrients and water.
4. If acidic chemical fertilizer alone is applied to alkaline soil, after the ammonium is absorbed by the plant, the remaining acid radical combines with hydrogen ions in the soil to form acid, which will increase soil acidity and worsen soil compaction. If mixed with organic fertilizer, it can improve the soil's buffering capacity and effectively regulate the pH.
5. Because organic fertilizer is an energy source for the life of microorganisms, and chemical fertilizer supplies the inorganic nutrients for the growth and development of microorganisms. Mixing the two can promote the vitality of microorganisms and thereby promote the decomposition of organic fertilizer. The vitality of soil microorganisms can also produce vitamins, biotin, nicotinic acid and so on, increasing soil nutrients, improving soil vitality and promoting crop growth.
In agricultural production, what are the differences between organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer?
1. Organic fertilizer contains a large amount of organic matter and has an obvious effect in improving soil and building fertility; chemical fertilizer can only provide crops with inorganic nutrients, and long-term application will have adverse effects on the soil, making the soil “greedier the more it is planted.”
2. Organic fertilizer contains multiple nutrients, and the nutrients it contains are comprehensive and balanced; while chemical fertilizer contains a single type of nutrient, and long-term application can easily cause an imbalance of nutrients in the soil and in food.
3. Organic fertilizer has a low nutrient content and needs to be applied in large amounts, while chemical fertilizer has a high nutrient content and is applied in small amounts.
