Is Tunisian pomegranate genetically modified? Sapling prices, years to fruit, and cultivation techniques
Tunisian pomegranate generally refers to Tunisian No. 2 soft-seeded pomegranate, which is the best among pomegranates and has the highest economic benefit. It blooms in May to June, the fruit fully matures in early September, and leaves fall in November. So is Tunisian pomegranate genetically modified? How much does a sapling cost? How many years after planting does it bear fruit? What are the cultivation techniques? According to the Shandong fruit tree nursery base, the price of Tunisian pomegranate saplings ranges from 1.5-4 yuan per tree.
Is Tunisian pomegranate genetically modified?
Soft-seeded pomegranate is not a genetically modified food.
Tunisian No. 2 soft-seeded pomegranate is the second-generation soft-seeded pomegranate bred by researchers at the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences after more than 20 years of trials and observation of the Tunisian soft-seeded pomegranate introduced to China from the country of Tunisia in 1986 (awarded a provincial scientific and technological achievement certificate: 9412004Y0696).
How many years after planting does Tunisian pomegranate bear fruit?
1. After planting, it can bear partial fruit in 2 years, and 100% fruit set after 3 years. After 3 years, the yield per mu can reach 550-1000 kg, and after 5 years, the yield per mu can reach more than 2000 kg. This variety is drought-resistant, disease-resistant, does not crack fruit, has a wide range of adaptability, and is not strict about soil. It can be planted in plains, hills, and shallow mountains.
2. Since Tunisian pomegranate came on the market, it has sold for 15 yuan per jin and still been in short supply, several times that of other ordinary pomegranates priced at 2-3 yuan per jin. The earliest farmers who conducted regional trials with 10-year-old trees now have annual economic income of more than 50,000 yuan.
What are the cultivation techniques for Tunisian pomegranate?
Tunisian pomegranate has excellent comprehensive traits. Its main characteristics are large fruit, thin skin, bright red fruit surface, sweet taste, soft seeds, early maturity, and easy management. It is currently the main recommended pomegranate variety.
(1) Planting density
Planting density is determined according to soil fertility. For fields with poor soil fertility, use 2.5 m × 3 m, planting 90 trees per mu. For fields with good soil fertility, use 3 m × 3.5 m, planting 55 trees per mu.
(2) Planting method
1. Seedling selection and transplanting: transplant large seedlings, strong seedlings, and seedlings of pure variety.
2. Transplanting time and method: pomegranate can be planted all year round, but planting in late winter and early spring (around the Spring Festival) is best. When planting, cut overly long roots shorter, dig a transplanting hole in the middle of the tea-tray-shaped backfilled soil large enough to accommodate the root system, place the seedling down, bury the roots deeply and then fill with soil while gently lifting the seedling upward, and press the soil firmly with your foot while filling.
3. Water thoroughly to set the roots.
4. Cover with plastic film or straw, and water at the right time to retain moisture and promote survival.
