Is strawberry cooling or warming, which month does it ripen, and how do you grow high-quality strawberries?
Strawberry is also called pineapple strawberry, with a flowering period from April to May and a fruiting period from June to July. It originated in South America and is widely cultivated throughout China and Europe. So is strawberry cooling or warming? Which month's fruit is it? How do you grow high-quality strawberries?
Is strawberry cooling or warming?
1. Strawberry is a cooling fruit. Strawberry is cooling in nature, sweet and sour in taste, and enters the spleen, stomach, and lung meridians. It has various effects such as clearing heat and quenching thirst, tonifying qi and nourishing blood, moistening the lungs and stopping cough, and promoting urination and relieving alcohol. It is suitable for people with a warm constitution.
2. Strawberry is a cooling fruit. Normally, eating strawberries will not cause internal heat, but strawberries contain a large amount of sugar and plant acids. These two components irritate the oral mucosa, especially when some strawberries have too high a sugar content. If you do not rinse your mouth in time after eating, a lot of sugar remains in the mouth for a long time and absorbs water from the oral mucosa. Excessive water loss in cells can cause skin damage, and after bacteria breed, it becomes oral ulcers. This phenomenon is actually not closely related to internal heat, and it usually improves by the next day.

4. People with a cold constitution should eat fewer strawberries to avoid aggravating spleen and stomach deficiency-cold and causing indigestion such as diarrhea, abdominal bloating, and abdominal pain. In addition, it is not suitable for people with diabetes or obesity to eat, so as not to aggravate the condition.
Which month's fruit is strawberry?
Strawberry belongs to the Rosaceae family, genus Fragaria, and originated in Chile. Its leaves remain green all year round, its flowers are pure white and elegant with a pleasant fragrance, and its fruit is bright red and beautiful. It can be both ornamental and edible, and is suitable for both field planting and pot culture, making it an excellent choice for home flower growing. Strawberry habits: it likes sunlight, tolerates cold, fears drought, and avoids waterlogging. It likes to grow in moist environments and in loose, fertile, well-drained sandy soil. It avoids alkaline or heavily clayey soil. In the Jiangnan region, young plants are cut and divided in summer and autumn for replanting, new leaves grow in early spring the following year, then small white flowers bloom, and from early May the fruit ripens and can be eaten. The entire cycle from flowering to fruit ripening is 30 days to 40 days.
How do you grow high-quality strawberries?
Strawberries are rich in nutrients, even higher in content than apples and grapes. Greenhouse strawberry cultivation is easy, convenient to manage, low in production cost, high in yield, and good in returns.
1. Cultivate strong seedlings
In early to mid-August, select robust young seedlings that grew earlier on strawberry runners and transplant them to open-field seedbeds or plastic pots for seedling raising. The seedling bed soil or pot soil is required to have good water retention and air permeability. After transplanting, strawberries need to be covered with shade netting to lower the temperature.
2. Reasonable planting
Before planting, plow and turn the soil in the planting greenhouse. At the same time, apply 3000-4000 kg of decomposed barn manure and 50-60 kg of compound fertilizer per mu as a base, then make beds. The bed width (including the ditch) is 1 m. A standard 6 m wide greenhouse can make 6 beds, with a bed ditch depth of 25-30 cm. In mid to late September, select seedlings with normally developing new leaves, symmetrical leaflets, dark green leaf color, thick petioles, large leaves, robust growth, and good yield potential for planting.
3. Temperature and humidity control
Generally, the daytime temperature is controlled between 25-28°C, not exceeding 30°C, and at night 7°C is suitable. Maintain 25°C at the early flowering stage, and keep it at 23°C during the full flowering stage. From late December to the end of January, when the greenhouse temperature is below 5°C, a small arched tunnel with an additional film cover should be set up inside the greenhouse, and in extreme low temperatures, three layers of film should be used for insulation. The humidity in the greenhouse should be controlled below 80% before flowering, and controlled at 60% from flowering to fruit enlargement. To prevent disease caused by high temperature and high humidity, spray “Xin Gaozhi Mo“ emulsion at 800 times dilution, once every about 10 days, for 2 times in total. By April of the following year, when the temperature rises noticeably, the surrounding film on both sides of the greenhouse can be removed to increase ventilation, reduce temperature and humidity, and extend the fruit production period.
4. Fertilizer and water management
According to the growth of strawberries, supplement phosphorus and potassium fertilizer and multiple trace elements in time. There must be sufficient water throughout the entire growth process. During the flowering period, the soil moisture can be slightly drier, while during the vigorous growth period and berry enlargement period, strawberries need more water. Irrigation can be combined with fertilization, dissolving fertilizer in water to make about a 1000 times solution for application. After early spring of the second year, as the temperature rises and production speeds up, to avoid strawberries becoming sour, potassium fertilizer should be increased, applying about 5 kg of 0.3% potassium sulfate per mu. In addition, before flowering, at the young fruit stage, and at the fruit enlargement stage, spray “Guaguo Zhuangdiling” + 0.3%-0.5% urea plus 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution, and apply 0.1-0.2 kg of urea per plant to supplement the nutrients needed for fruit growth and improve grain filling quality.
5. Pest and disease control
The main pests and diseases include aphids, spider mites, gray mold, powdery mildew, and bud blight. For aphids and red spiders, 20% synergistic fenvalerate and 40% dimethoate at 1500 times can be used. Gray mold is most likely to occur under high temperature and high humidity and during the vigorous growth period of strawberries. It can be controlled with 50% procymidone at 800 times, with very good results. For bud blight, remove old leaves, provide ventilation and light, and spray 1000 times polyoxin or 600 times captan aqueous solution once every week.
Greenhouse strawberries come to market early, and the returns are very considerable. Therefore, strengthen the management techniques for greenhouse strawberries to achieve early harvest and early benefits.
