Bletilla striata takes 3-4 years from seedling to harvest. During artificial cultivation, many pests and diseases affect its healthy growth. So when is the best time to fertilize Bletilla striata? What fertilizer is best? Below is a summary of high-yield fertilization methods for Bletilla striata.

High-yield fertilization techniques for Bletilla striata

What fertilizer is best for Bletilla striata

Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are the main components of fertilizer. The main role of nitrogen fertilizer is to promote the growth of stems and leaves, making the branches and leaves lush. When a plant lacks nitrogen fertilizer, the main sign is yellowing leaves, and even yellowing stems. The main role of phosphorus fertilizer is to promote root growth and to encourage the development of new shoots. The role of potassium fertilizer is to make the plant grow firm and upright, enhance the plant's disease resistance, and promote the enlargement of the pseudobulbs.

High-yield fertilization methods for Bletilla striata

There are two ways to fertilize Bletilla striata: one is soil fertilization, and the other is foliar fertilization.

1. Soil fertilization method

Decomposed farmyard manure: Farmyard manure is a very good organic fertilizer, but it must be piled and decomposed for more than one year before it can be applied. This fertilizer liquid can be diluted with water 10-20 times and poured on.

Chemical fertilizer: When applying chemical fertilizer, pay attention to the balance of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, and strictly control the concentration. Generally, a concentration of no less than 1000 times is used, diluted in water and poured on.

2. Foliar fertilization method

Foliar fertilization can make up for the deficiency of trace elements needed by Bletilla striata. Liquid fertilizer such as “Huabao” sold on the market can be diluted and sprayed, once every 15 days.

It is better to fertilize lightly than strongly. If the leaf surface is glossy, it indicates there is no lack of fertilizer; if the leaf surface is rather dull and lusterless, then fertilization is needed.

3. Fertilization time and interval

Because Bletilla striata grows slowly and needs relatively little fertilizer, the method of applying thin fertilizer frequently is mostly used. In spring and autumn each year, Bletilla striata grows relatively vigorously, so the fertilization interval should be shortened, while in summer and autumn it should be extended or fertilization should be stopped.

In spring, soil fertilization is done once every 15 days, and foliar fertilization once every 15-20 days. The two kinds of fertilizer can be alternated, that is, fertilizing 3-4 times per month, with each interval of 10 days.

4. Specific measures

1. Foliar fertilizer

Spray monopotassium phosphate at 2000 times dilution on the leaves. For products with a content of more than 99%, use 7.5 grams per bucket of water, with no less than 5 buckets of water per mu. Spray both the front and back sides of the leaves, that is, adjust different angles when spraying; the absorption effect on the back side of the leaves is better.

For Huabao foliar fertilizer, use it at no less than 1000 times dilution, or at the recommended concentration.

2. Compound fertilizer

Compound fertilizer with a total nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content higher than 50%, mixed with macro-element water-soluble fertilizer, urea, etc., and poured on at 1500-2000 times dilution.

Generally, pouring chemical fertilizer per mu requires 3-4 tons of water, and the fertilizer used per mu each time is within 10 kg. After pouring the fertilizer, observe whether there is any seedling burn; next time the amount of fertilizer can be appropriately increased.

5. Precautions

1. The plant relies entirely on fibrous roots to absorb nutrients and water. Therefore, fertilization should be applied around the roots, and the fertilizer liquid should seep down to the roots.

2. Organic fertilizer must be fully fermented and decomposed. Do not use raw manure for topdressing, and the concentration should be dilute; it should not be applied in clumps.

3. It is best to fertilize when the weather is clear and the soil is dry. On cloudy and rainy days, because the roots absorb water slowly, not only are nutrients not easily absorbed, but they will also be washed away by rainwater, causing waste.

4. Foliar fertilizer enters the leaves through the stomata on the leaf surface and is then transported to various organs. Generally, young leaves absorb faster than old leaves, and the back of the leaf absorbs faster than the front. Therefore, when spraying fertilizer, spray evenly so as to facilitate absorption.

5. For foliar fertilizer, strictly control the concentration and temperature. Spray on cloudy days or in the morning and after dusk on sunny days; high temperatures affect fertilizer efficiency or cause phytotoxicity. If there are signs of phytotoxicity, promptly spray once with clean water to remedy it.
