Emergency Management of Grapes After Summer Rainstorms and Root Aphid Control Methods
Grapes, also known as putao, caolongzhu, cizi cherry, bodhi seed, and mountain gourd, are one of the oldest fruit tree species in the world and are widely cultivated worldwide. So what are the emergency management measures for grapes after a rainstorm? How should root aphids be controlled?
Summer has a lot of rain. What are the emergency management measures for grapes after a rainstorm?
1. Strictly control soil moisture content. After rain, promptly drain the accumulated water from the vineyard and remove silt and mud, so that no standing water is visible in the orchard. For vineyards soaked by rainwater for a long time, the main vines can be whitewashed with 1:10 limewater. If continuous sunny and hot weather follows heavy rain, drip irrigation with a small amount of water should be used to keep orchard humidity stable.
2. Cultivate in time. After flooding, vineyard soil is prone to compaction, causing root hypoxia. When the soil is slightly dry, promptly carry out intertillage. During intertillage, appropriately increase the depth, mix the soil evenly, and break up soil clods. For orchards soaked by rainwater for a relatively long time, after drainage, dig open the soil around the tree plate to dry and dissipate moisture. After 1 to 3 sunny days, cover the soil promptly to prevent grape roots from being exposed for a long time.
3. Foliar topdressing. After grapes suffer waterlogging, the root system is easily damaged and its ability to absorb fertilizer and water decreases, so root fertilization should not be carried out immediately. Foliar topdressing can be done with 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate or 0.3% urea solution. After the tree vigor recovers, apply decomposed human and livestock manure and urine or cake fertilizer to promote new root growth.
4. Prune in time. Promptly cut off broken branches and vines, and remove fallen leaves, diseased fruit, and rotten fruit. For trees with severe root damage, promptly thin branches, cut leaves, and remove fruit to reduce transpiration and prevent tree death.
5. Strengthen pest and disease control. For early-maturing grape varieties about to be marketed or currently being sold, it is recommended to use biological pesticides or plant-derived pesticides such as wuyi mycin, matrine, and polyoxin; for immature mid- and late-maturing varieties, chemical pesticides can be used for control. Usable chemical pesticides include protective fungicides such as baobei thiram, mancozeb, captan, and thiram, or systemic fungicides such as difenoconazole, diniconazole, and imazalil, with key control of anthracnose, gray mold, downy mildew, and white rot; for orchards with severe red spider mite infestation, abamectin and pyridaben can be used for control.
How should aphids at the roots of grapes be controlled?
1. Grapevines infested by grape phylloxera will gradually decrease in yield until the trees die. An effective way to stop the spread of grape phylloxera damage is to graft onto North American rootstocks that can resist grape phylloxera.
2. Aphid control only requires uniform spraying.
