How do you trim the roots of lucky bamboo? A detailed guide to root trimming methods

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Anyone who has kept lucky bamboo knows that when it is in a suitable growing environment, its roots grow fairly quickly. At this point, if the vase is too small to hold its roots, it needs to be replaced. If you do not want to replace it, you can trim the roots for it, so how should you trim them? Next, we will explain how to trim its roots.

1. Preparation:

First check whether your bamboo stalk needs trimming. If there are a lot of roots, that means it needs trimming. Prepare a sharp tool and choose a sunny day to start trimming.

2. Removing the bamboo:

First move the vase to a place convenient for trimming, take off any ornaments hanging on the bamboo stalk, and then carefully take the bamboo stalk out of the vase. If you find that the roots are so dense that they are stuck at the mouth of the vase and it is inconvenient to take it out right away, you can first pour out the water in the vase. With the help of some tools, take it out carefully.

3. Inspection:

After taking the bamboo stalk out of the water, inspect it carefully. First look at its roots and see whether there are any rotten or already damaged ones, as well as old roots or roots that are not growing well.

4. Trimming:

If inspection reveals problem roots, you can remove them directly with a tool. When doing this, pay attention and be careful not to accidentally damage the new roots. New roots usually have a tender white outer layer.

5. Putting it back in the vase:

Wash the trimmed bamboo stalk clean with water, then place it in a vase containing nutrient solution to grow.

6. Care:

After trimming, change the water every 3 days. After a week, you can put some small pieces of charcoal in the water, which can prevent the roots from rotting. During the care process, do not move the vase for at least half a month. In this way, new roots will probably grow out after half a month.
