How to graft Epiphyllum hybrids using Pereskia?

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
"Epiphyllum hybrid" is a perennial epiphytic plant. Because its overall shape is relatively similar to the shape of an arrow, and its flowers are quite like water lilies, it got this name. Its height is between 50 and 100 cm, making it a rare and excellent variety. So, how do you graft it?

1. Choosing the Pereskia

We generally choose "Pereskia" as the rootstock. When selecting, we should pay attention to picking those that are somewhat thicker and also need relatively strong cold resistance.

2. Choosing the soil for planting

In order to make the grafted plant grow better, we should also pay attention to the soil. Generally, we can choose leaf mold, and mix in some coal cinder, eggshells and other substances; after mixing evenly, sift out the dust, and it is best to disinfect it before use.

3. Choosing the time

Here what we mainly consider is temperature. Since about 25 degrees is relatively suitable, we generally choose spring and autumn for this. However, if conditions do not allow it, summer is also possible, as long as the temperature is not too high.

4. Carrying out the grafting

Sharpen the Pereskia branch to a point, then gently insert the knife at the base of the Epiphyllum hybrid, and then insert the Pereskia branch into it. After that, clamp the branch on both sides with the Pereskia leaves, and fix it in place with clips or similar items. If the air is not very dry, then the joint does not need special attention; if it is very dry, then to prevent water loss, we can use "wax sealing" to retain water.

5. Precautions

(1) No matter when you choose to do the grafting, you must pay attention to the condition of the Pereskia; it is best if it is plump. In this way, the success rate is higher and the healing speed is faster.

(2) If the weather is too hot and humid, it is best to place the plant in a ventilated spot.
