Mimosa pudica, also known as sensitive plant, zhixiu grass, huhe grass, pa chou grass, jianxiao grass, husband-and-wife grass, and shy grass, is a common flower in China. Because it is easy to grow and has high ornamental value, it is widely cultivated. So, does mimosa bloom? When does it bloom? Does it die after blooming? How do you care for it?

Yes, it blooms, usually in midsummer. In the green grass, the pale purple-pink flowers, fluffy and soft, look especially delicate and shy, while the slender branches and leaves make the plump, round flowers look even more charming and vivid.

Blooming time:

The blooming period of mimosa is from July to October. From bud to bloom takes about 5 days. After blooming, it forms pods in autumn, with seeds inside, and the segments fall off when mature.

Does it die after blooming?

No. Like other plants, mimosa also blooms and sets seed, so after producing purple flowers it will form seeds, but not every flower will necessarily have seeds.

How do you care for it?

1. Before mimosa sprouts, do not water it. Cover it with plastic film to keep it warm and moist. If the temperature inside the pot is too high, use reed curtains as shade to moderate the temperature of the seedbed.

2. After all mimosa seedlings have emerged, if there is no wilting or withering, try not to water again for seedling hardening, to prevent excessive leggy growth of the mimosa leaves and stems.

3. If the mimosa potting soil is too dry and it needs watering, it is best to water after sunset, using a watering can to sprinkle water. When watering, wet and soak the mimosa growing soil thoroughly. Do not water at noon when the light is strong and the sun is intense. Water mimosa once each morning and evening. Each watering should keep a certain amount of water, not too much, and must not let the potting soil dry out. It is best to sprinkle water from above the mimosa.

4. When lifting the seedlings, thin mimosa twice so that the distance between each seedling stays about 4-5 cm. When the seedlings grow to more than about 8-10 cm, remove them from the pot and place them in the open ground to continue growing, or transplant them into new flower pots for final planting.

5. Mimosa is actually quite tough. You need to keep watering it every day, but you do not need to fertilize it. After about three months of watering, the seedlings will grow larger and bloom and set seed. Do not rush the growing process.

6. During cultivation, pay attention to the troubles of various pests and diseases, and try not to use pesticides on mimosa.
