Xiaomijiao, also known as Fenjiao, Emperor banana, and milk banana, is a common fruit in Guangdong, Hainan and other places. Because its flesh is aromatic and nutritious, it is deeply loved by people. So how much is the market price of Fenjiao per jin? When does it ripen and hit the market? What is the difference from bananas? How do you grow it?

Latest market price:

Emperor banana/Xiaomijiao weight 100-120 (g/fruit), number per kilogram 8-10 (fruits), pesticide residue ≤ 0.1 (mg/k… The market price of this kind of high-grade premium banana reaches 10 yuan/kg, several times higher than ordinary bananas, and it has a broad market.

Ripening and market time:

Xiaomijiao generally takes about 60 days from budding to harvest, and about 9--10 months from planting to harvest.

Difference from bananas:

Xiaomijiao is rich in carbohydrates, which can store and provide heat energy, maintain the energy necessary for brain function, and regulate fat metabolism; it can also provide dietary fiber, spare protein; detoxify, and at the same time enhance intestinal function. In addition, Xiaomijiao is relatively rich in copper. As an indispensable micronutrient for human health, copper has an important impact on blood, the central nervous system and the immune system, hair, skin and bone tissue, as well as the development and function of internal organs such as the brain, liver, and heart. Xiaomijiao also contains a considerable amount of potassium and magnesium. Potassium can prevent blood pressure from rising and muscle cramps, while magnesium has the effect of eliminating fatigue.

Bananas are very nutritious. Every 100 grams of flesh contains 1.2 grams of protein, 0.5 grams of fat, 19.5 grams of carbohydrates, 0.9 grams of crude fiber, 9 milligrams of calcium, 31 milligrams of phosphorus, 0.6 milligrams of iron, and also contains carotene, thiamine, niacin, vitamin C, vitamin E, and rich trace elements such as potassium.

As for which is more nutritious, I think it depends on personal preference. Liking to eat it is what matters most.

Cultivation techniques:

1. Selection and preparation of the banana plantation

For mountain banana plantations, land facing south with its back to the north, sufficient sunlight, and fertile, loose soil should be selected. It is better to plant on downhill slopes or at the foot of hills with a slope of less than 30°. This is because uphill soil has a thin soil layer, is poor and dry, difficult to irrigate, and windy, so it is not very suitable for planting Fenjiao. Mountain land with poor and acidic soil should be improved by increasing the application of organic fertilizer and lime, changing the soil structure, and improving water conservancy facilities. Mountain planting requires building horizontal terraces, with one row planted per terrace belt, and the terrace surface slightly reverse-sloped to facilitate drainage and irrigation and conserve soil and water.

2. Varieties

Choose “Fenza No. 1”, “Guangfen No. 1” or “Jinfen No. 1” for planting, as they perform well. Tissue-cultured plantlets should be selected because their plant shape, maturity period, fruit shape and yield have all been carefully selected and bred. Moreover, because tissue-cultured plantlets have undergone strict quarantine, the possibility of seed-source-borne disease has been eliminated, and they can effectively prevent the occurrence and spread of various diseases.

3. Reasonable close planting

Plant at the right time. Because Fenjiao plants are tall with wide crowns, the planting spacing should be 2.5m×2.5m or 2.5m×3m, with 90-110 plants per mu being suitable. The growth period of Fenjiao is generally 2-3 months longer than that of bananas. It takes about 13 months from planting to budding, and about 3-4 months from budding to harvest. Therefore, spring planting and autumn planting are suitable, with spring planting and summer harvest, and autumn planting and spring harvest, with spring planting as the main method.

4. Fertilizer and water management

Fenjiao plants are tall, have well-developed root systems, grow vigorously, and require more nutrients.

①The fertilizer requirement is 1kg of nitrogen fertilizer, 0.5kg of phosphate fertilizer, and 1.5-2kg of potassium fertilizer per plant, so preparation work must be done before planting. It is best to apply 15kg of decomposed poultry manure per plant as base fertilizer, plus 1kg of ternary compound fertilizer (preferably potassium sulfate compound fertilizer) and 0.5kg of potassium chloride. In order to prevent root damage from fertilization from inducing Panama disease, apply enough fertilizer for the entire growth period at one time during planting. At the same time, apply an appropriate amount of lime according to the soil quality to adjust the pH. In order not to affect the yield of the fruit-bearing mother plant, Fenjiao should not retain suckers.

②In order to prevent fertilizer loss due to rain, after planting the banana seedlings and applying fertilizer, cover the belt surface with black film. This can not only preserve water and fertilizer, but also increase soil temperature, allowing the fruit to mature 15-25d earlier; it can also prevent weed growth and eliminate the work of weeding.

③Bananas cultivated in mountain areas are more prone to drought than those planted in paddy fields, so banana plantations should be equipped with irrigation facilities, preferably all using drip irrigation. Irrigation water should use mountain spring water or groundwater to prevent cross-infection of pathogens through irrigation.

5. Protection of plants and fruits

Because Fenjiao trees are tall and have poor wind resistance, stakes should be set up immediately after budding to prevent wind, and in winter the flower buds and fruit clusters should be covered with film bags to prevent frost damage.

6. Pest and disease control

Fenjiao fusarium wilt should be mainly prevented. If diseased plants are found, they must be pulled out immediately, and lime should be used to disinfect the soil to prevent spread. Leaf spot diseases such as black spot disease, yellow leaf spot gray streak disease, and marginal blight are common diseases of Fenjiao. At present, the more specific pesticide is Tilt (spray with 1500 times 25% emulsifiable concentrate), followed by carbendazim, thiophanate-methyl, miebingwei, etc. Cutworms and weevils mainly damage the corm and pseudostem of Fenjiao and are relatively harmful boring pests in banana areas. For new plants, apply 50-100g of carbofuran per hole, or pour insecticide once a month at the banana head before budding to also control root-knot nematodes, or mix fensulfothion powder with fine sand and broadcast it when the soil is moist (or before rain). After budding, no further pouring (broadcasting) is needed. When Fenjiao fusarium wilt first occurs, Fulter (aqueous solution) diluted 600-1000 times can be poured 3 times, with 15d between each application, which can enhance the resistance of infected plants and control the worsening of the condition of infected plants.

7. Strengthen quarantine and isolation in new Fenjiao planting areas

Strengthening quarantine and isolation in new Fenjiao planting areas is an effective way to reduce the massive occurrence of Fusarium wilt in newly planted plantations. This is because the spread of the disease occurs through the movement of infected corms, suckers, and soil. New plantations must plant tissue-cultured seedlings, and planting sucker seedlings is prohibited. At the same time, strict soil disinfection is required before planting.
