How much profit is typically made on a bag of fertilizer, and how can you tell real from fake?
Fertilizer generally refers to chemical fertilizer, which is made by chemical and/or physical methods and contains one or several nutrient elements needed for crop growth.So how much profit is there on a bag of fertilizer? How do you tell real from fake?
How much profit is there on a bag of fertilizer
Generally, distributors are divided into 2-3 levels: first-level distributors, second-level distributors (many places do not have this level), terminal distributors, and farmers. First-level distributors add 100-500 yuan/ton, while terminal distributors add more, generally 400-1000 yuan/ton. So fertilizer from the factory to the farmer's hands needs a markup of 500-1500 yuan/ton, and some markups are over 2000 yuan/ton. Calculated this way, each bag of fertilizer is marked up by 25-100 yuan/ton. Common fertilizer ratios such as 15-15-15 and 17-17-17 are available from almost every manufacturer, so the distributor's profit is lower, which is also why many terminal distributors are unwilling to sell balanced fertilizers.
How do you tell real fertilizer from fake?
1. Check the packaging:
1. Check the markings: Relevant state authorities stipulate that fertilizer packaging bags must indicate the product name, nutrient content, grade, trademark, net weight, standard code, factory number, factory address, and production license number. If these markings are absent or incomplete, it may be fake or inferior fertilizer.
2. Check the packaging seal: Pay special attention to fertilizer whose packaging seal shows obvious signs of having been opened, as this phenomenon may indicate adulteration.
2. Look at the shape and color:
1. Urea is white or light yellow, in the form of granular, needle-like or spindle-shaped crystals, with no powder or little powder;
2. Ammonium sulfate is white crystals;
3. Ammonium chloride is white or light yellow crystals;
4. Ammonium bicarbonate appears as white or otherwise dyed powder or granular crystals. A few manufacturers also produce large granular flat-spherical ammonium bicarbonate;
5. Superphosphate is grayish-white or light gray powder;
6. Triple superphosphate is dark gray or grayish-white granules or powder;
7. Potassium sulfate is white crystals or powder;
8. Potassium chloride is white or light red granules.
3. Smell the odor:
If a liquid has a strong pungent ammonia smell, it is ammonia water; granules with an obvious pungent ammonia smell are ammonium bicarbonate; fine powder with a sour smell is triple superphosphate. If superphosphate has a very pungent sour smell, it indicates that waste sulfuric acid was very likely used in the production process. This kind of fertilizer is highly toxic and can easily damage or burn crops to death, and especially must not be used in rice seedling beds.
