How do you fertilize cultivated forage grass?

Fertilizing cultivated forage grass can not only increase the yield of cultivated forage grass, but also improve the quality of the grass stand and extend the service life of the grassland. Fertilization of cultivated grassland is divided into two types: base fertilizer (bottom fertilizer) before sowing and topdressing during the forage grass growing period.

1. Base fertilizer. The purpose of applying base fertilizer is to build up soil fertility and meet the fertilizer needs of forage grass and feed crops throughout the entire growth period. Base fertilizer application is mainly based on organic fertilizer, and organic fertilizer that is not well decomposed must be applied in autumn. Generally, it is applied once every 3 to 4 years, at 500 kg to 1000 kg per mu. Methods of applying base fertilizer include broadcast application, band application, layered application and mixed application.

2. Topdressing. It is mainly based on quick-acting chemical fertilizers, and the type and amount of topdressing should be determined according to the results of soil nutrient element analysis obtained through sampling surveys. The time for topdressing cultivated forage grass should be at the tillering (branching) stage, jointing (stem elongation) stage, heading (budding) stage of the forage grass and after each cutting; feed crops are topdressed at the stem, ear and grain development stages. As for the type of topdressing, gramineous forage grasses are mainly given nitrogen fertilizer, combined with a certain amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer; leguminous forage grasses are mainly given phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and a certain amount of nitrogen fertilizer can be applied at the seedling stage in the sowing year; for grassland sown with a mixture of legumes and grasses, no or little nitrogen fertilizer is applied, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer are mainly applied; quick-acting fertilizer can be applied once a year, preferably after grazing or cutting, when combined with harrowing and irrigation.

Which forage grass is best for raising cattle?

1. King grass, also known as sugarcane grass. It also has a very imposing name, the king of grasses. Why is it called that? Because its tillering ability is relatively strong, and a single plant can produce 80-90 tillers each year. How about that? This alone is enough for it to be king among grasses. Therefore, its economic value is what people value most.

2. Mexican corn has a rhizome that is both large and straight, and its length is even more surprising, reaching up to 4 m, practically catching up with a tree. However, it has relatively high temperature requirements. Generally speaking, it stops growing when the temperature drops to 10 degrees. But it is not strict about soil requirements, so its economic value is also relatively strong.

3. Sweet sorghum is also called sorghum sugarcane, and it can be said that the whole plant is a treasure. Because it grows grain on the upper part and sugarcane on the lower part, do you think that sounds magical? Because its sugar content can rival that of sugarcane from the south. Its uses are also very wide-ranging. It can be used to make sugar and make alcohol, and can also be used as feed, and it is very high quality, so its economic value is what people value most. Because its yield is also very high, reaching as much as 20,000 kg.

How many cattle can one mu of forage grass support?

1. Taking an 800 jin cow as an example, the dry matter of roughage accounts for about 2 to 2.5% of the cow's body weight, which means one cow needs to eat 15 to 20 jin of hay a day. Depending on the moisture content of fresh grass, one cow needs to eat at least 30 to 40 jin of fresh grass a day. In a year, it needs 10950 to 14600 jin of fresh grass, that is, 5.4 to 7.3 tonnes of fresh grass.

2. King grass, elephant grass, Mexican corn, etc., can reach 10 to 15 tonnes of fresh grass per mu under high-yield conditions. Alfalfa, ryegrass, etc. produce only 2 to 5 tonnes of fresh grass per mu.
