Common Pests and Diseases of Kiwifruit and Chemical Control Methods at Different Phenological Stages
Kiwifruit, also known as Chinese gooseberry, is a fruit with tender quality, rich nutrition and delicious flavor. The flesh is soft, with a sweet and sour taste. So what are the common pests and diseases of kiwifruit? How to control them? What are the chemical control methods at different phenological stages?
What are the common pests and diseases of kiwifruit? How to control them?
1. White peach scale
For control, a 1000-fold dilution of fenitrothion can be sprayed; for root-knot nematodes, 1-4 kg of 40% phorate liquid per mu can be applied for control.
2. Flower rot
Before flower buds appear, apply 3-5 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture per mu, or a 500-fold dilution of 65% zineb wettable powder, for control.
3. Leaf blight
A 800-1000-fold dilution of 50% thiophanate wettable powder can be used for control.
4. Gray mold
A 1000-fold dilution of captan or a 800-fold dilution of zineb can be used for control.
5. Soft rot and ripe rot
A 800-1000-fold dilution of carbendazim can be used for control.
What are the chemical control methods for pests and diseases of kiwifruit at different phenological stages?
1. From late February to mid-March, kiwifruit is in the bud break stage. During the adult occurrence period, taking advantage of the death-feigning behavior of scarab beetles and citrus large gray weevils, shake the branches in the early morning or evening and the adults will fall to the ground, where they can be caught and killed in a concentrated manner, and promptly prune the tender shoots damaged by boring insects. Spray the whole orchard with 3-5 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture.
2. From late April to mid-May, kiwifruit is in the flowering stage. To prevent bacterial flower rot and canker, spray once with 0.1-0.2 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture or 1:1:100 Bordeaux mixture when flower buds first appear.
3. From June to July, kiwifruit is in the young fruit expansion stage. During this period, attention should be paid to the prevention and control of piercing-sucking mouthpart pests such as the black-tailed leafhopper and the two-spotted leafhopper. A 4000-fold dilution of 10% bifenthrin emulsifiable concentrate or a 4000-fold dilution of 10% imidacloprid can be sprayed, which can also control small timber beetles, scale insects and red spiders; hanging moth-attracting lamps or frequency-vibration insect-killing lamps near the kiwifruit orchard can trap and kill pests with strong phototaxis such as moths and scarab beetles.
4. From September to November, kiwifruit is in the fruit ripening stage. During this period, attention should be paid to the prevention and control of canker. A 400-fold dilution of 20% thiodiazole-copper suspension concentrate, or a 300-fold dilution of 77% copper hydroxide wettable powder, can be sprayed on leaves, branches and other parts.
5. From December to January of the following year, kiwifruit is in the dormant stage. During this period, in combination with winter pruning, prune diseased and pest-infested branches, scrape off old cracked bark from the trunk, and remove dead branches, fallen leaves and rotten fruit from the field, and clear weeds and take them out of the orchard together for centralized deep burial or burning (orchards with canker need to burn them).
