How much does a wampee sapling cost? Planting time, methods, and maturity and market season
Wampee is a fairly common high-quality fruit in southern China in July and August. Because both its peel and fruit can be used as medicine, and it can be processed into jelly, fruit cakes, refreshing drinks, and more, it is widely cultivated. So how much does a wampee sapling cost on the market? When should it be planted? When does it mature and reach the market? How do you grow it?
Latest sapling prices:
The market price of wampee saplings is about 3-12 yuan per tree.
Planting time:
Spring planting is best. Spring planting is generally carried out from March to May, when there is more rain and temperatures rise, making it easy for roots to take hold and giving a high survival rate. When bag-grown seedlings are transplanted, their root systems are less affected. In orchards with irrigation conditions, planting can be done in all four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
Maturity and market season:
Wampee flowers from April to May and fruits from July to August. Wampee originated in southern China and has a history of more than 1,500 years in China. In Hainan, China, both the flowering and fruiting periods are 1-2 months earlier.
Planting techniques:
1. Planting density
Generally, 50-80 trees are planted per mu, mostly using the wide-row, narrow-plant method. Spacing can be 3 m × 4 m or 2.5 m × 3.5 m. When planned close planting is used, about 110 trees are planted per mu, and spacing can be 2 m × 3 m.
2. Seedling preparation
Choose excellent varieties suited to local cultivation. The seedlings should have short trunks, lush branches and leaves, and no pests or diseases.
3. Preparation of planting holes
After setting the planting positions according to the spacing, dig holes 1 m long and 1 m wide and 0.8 m deep, apply farmyard manure and backfill soil in layers, and fill the top layer with topsoil. In each hole, bury and apply 50 kg of green manure + 50 kg of farmyard manure + 0.5 kg of lime + 0.5 kg of phosphate fertilizer. After backfilling with topsoil, the planting hole should be about 20 cm above the ground. When planting in flatland orchards with a relatively high groundwater table, the planting holes should be layered with decomposed compost and local soil or added foreign soil, heaped into mounds about 30 cm high with a base 1 m long and 1 m wide.
4. Planting
When planting, the roots of the wampee seedlings must avoid contact with fertilizer. The seedlings should stand upright, and the roots should spread out naturally in all directions. The planting depth should be such that fine soil covers up to the root crown and maintains the same depth as during the seedling stage. Be careful when planting, and gently firm the fine soil. After planting, water thoroughly to settle the roots, and cover the tree basin with grass to retain moisture and prevent direct sunlight and rain erosion.
5. Pest and disease control
During the period when autumn shoot leaves turn green, strengthen pest and disease control, spraying together with foliar fertilizer to control pests and diseases such as red spider mites, leaf miner moths, and anthracnose.
