Corn is one of the main food crops in China, but corn weeds have always been a troublesome matter in corn planting. So, how do you use corn herbicides without harming seedlings? What are the methods for using corn herbicides?

1. How to use corn herbicides without harming seedlings?

In summer, corn herbicides must be used reasonably, not too much or too little; using too much will have a negative impact on corn seedlings, while using too little will fail to control weeds. At the same time, incorrect dosage can cause herbicide damage in arid areas and areas with high temperature and high humidity, so the dosage in the instructions must be strictly followed.

For pre-emergence soil treatment types, the dosage is 150-250g per mu of land, and for post-emergence corn herbicide types, the dosage is 80-150g per mu of land; avoid applying the pesticide at noon or during high temperature and strong light, when the pesticide is highly volatile and seriously wasted. At this time, the stomata of weeds are also closed, absorption of the pesticide is limited, and the pesticide cannot achieve a good control effect.

If spraying on a sunny day, it should be done from 8-10 a.m. or after 5 p.m. before sunset when there is no dew. Spraying should be stopped when the wind is strong, because strong wind will cause uneven spraying and can easily cause herbicide damage; in addition, do not arbitrarily increase the concentration of the pesticide. Arbitrarily increasing the amount of herbicide and reducing the dilution multiple of the herbicide will cause damage to plant leaves.

If herbicide damage has already occurred, rescue it promptly. The method is to spray with clean water to remove the residual herbicide on the corn leaf surface, thereby reducing the concentration of herbicide in the corn plant and reducing the damage. When the damage is mild, some foliar fertilizer or regulator can be sprayed to alleviate it. In the later stage, strengthen the management of fertilizer and water for corn, and replenish rescue water and fertilizer in time, so as not to cause large-scale losses.

2. Precautions for spraying corn herbicides

1. Avoid applying the pesticide at noon during high temperature and strong light

Spraying herbicides around noon when the temperature is high and the light is strong: first, the pesticide is highly volatile and seriously wasted! Second, at this time the weed stomata are closed, absorption of the pesticide solution is limited, the spray is not easy to hit the target, and the control effect is unsatisfactory.

2. Choose a rainless cloudy day for application

If it is a sunny day, spray from 8-10 a.m. after sunrise or after 5 p.m. before sunset when there is no dew. When the wind is strong, spraying should be stopped; otherwise, it will cause uneven spraying and can easily cause herbicide damage.

3. Pay attention to personal protection

Do not fill the bucket too full of pesticide solution. When spraying, some farmers like to fill the sprayer bucket very full with pesticide solution. This is not only unfavorable for spraying, but more importantly, if the sprayer lid is not tightly sealed, the pesticide solution may splash onto the body when the applicator walks in the field, and in hot seasons it can easily cause poisoning. The correct practice is that when mixing the pesticide, the upper liquid level in the bucket should be below the scale line, and the sealing ring of the lid must be intact to ensure the lid is tightly sealed.

4. Do not arbitrarily increase the concentration of the pesticide solution

Some farmers, in order to improve work efficiency or to enhance the control effect, often increase the amount of herbicide, reduce the dilution multiple of the herbicide, and arbitrarily increase the concentration of the herbicide, even in the hot summer season. Because water evaporates quickly under the hot sun, if the concentration of the pesticide sprayed is too high, it can easily cause pesticide damage to plant leaves.

5. Do not mix with organophosphorus pesticides

Such as dichlorvos, omethoate, chlorpyrifos, phoxim, malathion, etc. Mixing them with herbicides in hot weather can very easily cause herbicide damage.
