How much is okra seed per jin? With planting methods
Okra contains protein, fat, carbohydrates and rich vitamins, calcium, phosphorus, iron, etc., as well as trace elements such as zinc and selenium. It has long been known as the “king of vegetables” and has extremely high economic uses and edible and medicinal value. In addition, okra has low planting costs, a short growth cycle, high economic returns and high yields, so more and more people are starting to plant it. So, how much is okra seed generally per jin? Can it be eaten? How is it planted? What are the planting methods?
1. How much is okra seed generally per jin?
The price of yellow okra seed is about 40-60 yuan per jin, but it varies depending on the seed variety, quality, place of origin and purchase quantity.
Red okra seed can generally be bought at shops in townships that sell pesticide and seed products or online. They are all sealed in packets, a few yuan per bag. Of course, it is also sold loose by the jin, at about 70 yuan.
2. Can okra seed be eaten?
The seeds of okra are the okra seeds we usually see inside okra, and they can be eaten. Okra seeds, like chili seeds, can be eaten. Okra is generally harvested and eaten while it is crisp and tender. At this time, the seeds have not yet fully grown and matured, and their texture is also very crisp and tender. There is no need to remove them when eating, and okra seeds contain many other nutrients. Eating them also has many nourishing effects, so they are suitable for consumption.
3. How is okra seed planted? What are the methods?
1. Okra can be direct-seeded, and spring sowing is generally best. Because the suitable temperatures for its seed germination, plant growth and development, and pod formation are all 22-35°C, sowing should not be too early. Generally, direct seeding is better when the soil temperature is above 15°C. Spring temperatures in the south are relatively high, so direct seeding can be done after February; temperatures in the north are relatively low, so the suitable sowing period is preferably in early to mid-May; in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, sow in early April, and in the coastal areas of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, sowing in late April is preferable.
2. Okra can also be raised as seedlings and then transplanted. If seedlings can be raised in a shed and then field-planted, complete and uniform seedlings can be achieved, and the growth period can be extended, which is beneficial for high yield and high quality.
3. Okra seeds have a hard seed coat. Before sowing, soak the seeds for 12 hours and then place them at 25°C to germinate. Sow when 60%-70% of the seeds have “broken mouth”. Sowing by spot seeding is preferable. The bed width is 85 cm, the bed ditch width is 30 cm, 1 row is planted per bed, the hole spacing is 30-35 cm, and 2-4 seeds are sown per hole, with a hole depth of 2-3 cm. Water first, then sow, and then cover with soil about 2 cm thick. Nutrient pots and plug trays are mostly used for raising seedlings, sowing 2 seeds per hole, and thinning to a final stand when there are 2-3 true leaves.
4. From early April to late August, sowing can be arranged in the open field in succession, and tender pods can be harvested in the same year; by using large and small shed covering for raising seedlings, sowing can be advanced to early March, and tender pods can be harvested earlier.
