Plumeria Potted Planting Methods and Home Flower-Growing Tips
Plumeria, also called frangipani, egg-yolk flower, Indian jasmine, and great season flower, is mostly distributed in Xishuangbanna, China and some countries in Southeast Asia, and is recognized by Buddhism as one of the “Five Trees and Six Flowers”. It has poor cold tolerance and drops its leaves in winter; after the leaves fall off, the trunk naturally bends like a bonsai, and it is equally ornamental. Below is an introduction to the potted planting methods for plumeria.
I. Growth habits and characteristics of plumeria
This plant is a sun-loving tree species, so first of all it has relatively high light requirements. If there is not enough light, it may not bloom or bloom very little, and only grow leaves. Second, it likes to grow in a hot and humid environment; it must not be too dry, nor waterlogged. It also has some requirements for soil; it is best if the soil is slightly acidic, and preferably fertile, breathable and well-draining, and rich in organic matter. Also, its cold tolerance is very poor.
II. Potted planting methods for plumeria
1. Temperature
We said above that it likes a hot environment and is very intolerant of cold. Its most suitable temperature is 20 to 26 degrees Celsius, so temperature is a factor we need to pay special attention to, especially in winter. Generally speaking, the overwintering temperature in winter should not be lower than 8 degrees, so growers in northern regions should not forget to let it overwinter indoors.
2. Soil
In addition to the several factors mentioned above, it is best if the soil is also loose and contains more humus.
3. Water
Overall, the plant has a fairly high demand for water, but it can neither be too much nor too little. In spring and autumn, water once every one to two days. In summer, the frequency can be higher: once in the morning, and in the evening check the soil condition, and if it is dry, water again. In winter, once every ten days or about half a month is enough.
4. Light
This is very important. With sufficient light, the plant can grow more vigorously and its fragrance can be stronger. Apart from a short period of shade right after transplanting or repotting, it can receive as much sunlight as possible the rest of the time.
5. Repotting
This plant needs to be repotted once in spring, and the soil should also be replaced with fresh soil. After repotting, remember to water thoroughly.
