How to grow asparagus fern? Keep these points in mind and you can grow it easily
Asparagus fern, also known as cloud-pine, is a climbing plant and a plant with extremely high ornamental value. It can reach six meters in height, is native to southern and eastern Africa, and is widely distributed in central China, the Yangtze River basin, the northwest and the southern regions. The asparagus fern has a light and elegant, quiet and refined form, and is generally placed in the study and living room for viewing, adding a scholarly touch to the room. It is a plant that likes warm, humid and semi-shady, well-ventilated environments, and is neither cold-tolerant nor drought-tolerant; in summer it must not be exposed to direct sunlight. So, how do you grow asparagus fern?
How do you grow asparagus fern?
The key points in cultivating asparagus fern are temperature, light, water and soil.
1. The suitable growing environment for asparagus fern is roughly 15°C to 25°C. When the temperature is above 32°C or below 10°C, the asparagus fern may stop growing, and below 5°C it will be frostbitten.
2. Asparagus fern is a shade-loving plant; it grows better in a relatively cool environment, but it cannot be completely deprived of sunlight. It is best placed indoors with diffused light and must not be placed in a spot with direct sunlight, especially in summer, when direct sunlight and scorching sun must be avoided. Asparagus fern in the flowering period is afraid of wind and rain, but at the same time good ventilation must still be maintained to promote the growth of the asparagus fern.
3. During the growth of asparagus fern, its demand for water is very strict; it should be watered in moderation, and asparagus fern likes environments with higher humidity. Although there is no fixed number of days for watering asparagus fern, the condition of the soil should be checked promptly to keep the soil moist. But do not overwater either; there must not be a situation where too much water causes waterlogging in the pot. In winter, reduce watering as much as possible to prevent the roots and stems of the asparagus fern from being damaged by low temperatures, and when watering, try to use water at the same temperature as the surroundings. If it is a hot summer, more water also needs to be sprayed into the air around the asparagus fern, on the ground and around the leaf surfaces to increase air humidity, avoiding an overly dry environment that prevents the asparagus fern from growing normally.
4. Asparagus fern needs fertile soil for growth; sufficient nutrients are what allow it to grow better. At the same time, asparagus fern likes relatively loose soil, because loose soil has better drainage. In choosing soil, it is best to choose soils rich in humus such as humus soil and peat soil, which are more suitable for the growing conditions of asparagus fern. You can also mix soil yourself; for example, mix humus soil, garden soil, sand and manure at a ratio of 5:2:2:1 to make a loose and fertile soil that is more suitable for planting asparagus fern.
In addition to the points above, asparagus fern can also be given a moderate amount of fertilizer to promote its growth; usually a dilute organic liquid fertilizer is applied in spring and autumn, generally once every half month. At the same time, because asparagus fern is a climbing plant, when caring for it you also need to set up a support so that it can climb and grow, and pay attention to pruning as well.
