Anthurium is a flowering plant very well suited to pot cultivation, bringing a soft, elegant and warm feeling to the home. But sometimes an anthurium that has been growing perfectly well at home suddenly starts to turn yellow leaf by leaf for no apparent reason, which troubles many plant lovers greatly. So what are the causes of yellowing leaves on potted anthurium, and what are the solutions?

1. Yellow leaves caused by improper watering

If the young leaves at the top of the anthurium turn pale yellow, the older leaves also gradually turn yellow, and the new shoots shrivel, this is because overwatering has made the soil in the pot too wet, so the soil cannot breathe, the roots rot, and the leaves then turn yellow.

Solution:

Control the amount of water given, do not let water accumulate, avoid rain exposure, and loosen the soil often. If the color of the top leaves of the anthurium is normal but the lower leaves gradually turn yellow and withered from the bottom upward until they fall off, this is caused by the potting soil being dry for a long time, so you need to water a moderate amount, remember to water thoroughly, and keep the soil moist.

2. Yellow leaves caused by unsuitable light

If the anthurium is kept in a place without sunlight for a long time, or exposed to strong sun for a long period, yellow leaves are also very likely.

Solution:

So pay attention to giving it diffused light, provide appropriate shade in summer, and in winter, when the light is not strong, it can be given full sun.

3. Yellow leaves caused by improper choice of potting soil

When the leaves of the anthurium appear thin and yellow, it may be because the fertilizer is insufficient, or the flower pot is the wrong size, or the pot has not been changed for a long time.

Solution:

So choose a suitable flower pot, gradually increase the fertilizer during growth, keep nutrients sufficient, and also change the pot in good time.

4. Yellow leaves caused by poor ventilation

If it is kept for a long time in a place with poor ventilation, the anthurium will also develop yellowing leaves.

Solution:

Be sure to ensure good ventilation and give it a good, comfortable growing environment.

5. Yellow leaves caused by improper fertilizing

If fertilizer and water are lacking for a long time and only clear water is used for care, the leaves will turn yellow because of insufficient nutrients. But if the leaves are uneven and bumpy, the new leaves are very thick, and the old leaves begin to turn yellow, then fertilizer damage has occurred.

Solution:

At this point stop fertilizing and water more, and you can also put some vegetable seeds in the pot to help absorb the fertilizer and ensure the plant returns to a normal state.

6. Yellow leaves caused by pests and diseases

If there is a lot of dust on the leaves, leaf blight, leaf spot disease and the like are very likely to occur, which will make the leaves turn yellow.

Solution:

A fungicide can be sprayed for prevention and control. Usually wipe the leaves often to keep the leaf surface clean and reduce pests and diseases.

In addition, a few notes on growing anthurium:

1. Choosing a flower pot

Choose according to the size of the plant; it must not be too large, otherwise the soil will dry very slowly after taking in water, affecting root growth.

2. Changing the potting soil

Repotting must be done promptly so that the normal growth of the plant is not affected. Be careful when repotting and do not damage the roots.

3. Watering management

Never let water accumulate; just keep the soil moist. Do not water on winter evenings, as the temperature at night is much lower than during the day, and this can easily freeze and damage the roots and stems.
