How do you grow garland chrysanthemum (crown daisy) and control its pests and diseases?
Garland chrysanthemum is also known as tonghao, penghao, haocai and juhuacai. It helps calm the nerves and sharpen the mind, stimulate the appetite and aid digestion, promote bowel movements and relieve constipation, and relieve cough and reduce phlegm. So, how do you grow garland chrysanthemum? How do you control its pests and diseases? How do you harvest it?
1. Cultivation techniques
1. Cultivation seasons
(1) Spring: sow from February to April, harvest from April to July;
(2) Autumn: sow from August to September, harvest from September to February of the following year;
(3) Winter: sow from October to November, harvest from December to April of the following year.
2. Key cultivation techniques
(1) Land preparation and base fertilizer
Apply 1500 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer per mu as base fertilizer. After sunning the field for 2-3 days, make raised beds 1.5 m wide with furrows 20-25 cm deep, then rake and level the surface soil finely before sowing.
(2) Sowing
Before sowing, the seeds need to be treated. Soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours, remove them and place them at 15-20 degrees to sprout. When the seeds show white sprouts after 3-4 days, they can be sown. At sowing, apply 3-4 kg per mu, water thoroughly after sowing, and cover with 0.5-1 cm of soil.
2. Pest and disease control
1. Damping-off
(1) Sow at the proper time and choose a reasonable planting density.
(2) In the early stage of the disease, use 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder at 800 times dilution, or 58% ridomil manganese zinc wettable powder at 500 times dilution, or 64% sandofan wettable powder at 500 times dilution alternately at noon on sunny days.
2. Leaf spot
(1) Practice crop rotation.
(2) In the early stage of the disease, control it with 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder at 1000 times dilution and 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder at 1000 times dilution.
3. Sclerotinia rot
(1) Disinfect the seeds before sowing; the seeds can be washed with 10% salt water.
(2) Plant on high beds and control the amount of nitrogen fertilizer applied.
(3) In the early stage of the disease, control it with 50% rongjunling wettable powder at 500-700 times dilution, or 40% dimetachlone wettable powder at 500-700 times dilution, or 50% iprodione wettable powder at 1000-1500 times dilution.
4. Diamondback moth
(1) Avoid continuous cropping when planting.
(2) Carry out cleaning work regularly.
(3) In the early stage of the disease, spray BT emulsion or 5% chlorfluazuron EC at 3000 times dilution for control.
5. Cabbage caterpillar
(1) Avoid continuous cropping when planting.
(2) When the temperature is above 20 degrees, spray BT emulsion at 500-800 times dilution for control.
6. Tobacco cutworm
To trap and kill adult moths, mix sugar, wine, water and vinegar in a ratio of 3:1:2:4 and add a small amount of trichlorfon to make a sugar-vinegar liquid for trapping and killing.
3. Harvesting
1. Garland chrysanthemum can be harvested when the plants grow to 20 cm. For harvesting, use a sharp knife to cut at the base of the stem, leaving 2-3 leaves. Harvest once every 20-25 days, for a total of 2-3 harvests, with a yield of 1000-1500 kg per mu.
2. The harvest interval is 20-25 days, and it can be harvested 2-3 times.
