3. What are the papaya growing techniques?

1. Land selection

Papaya has strong adaptability and does not have high soil requirements. Generally, as long as there is good light and the soil is loose and fertile, it can grow, so when selecting land, try to choose loose sandy soil for planting, which is best. When selecting land, try to choose a relatively large plot to facilitate mutual pollination among papaya plants and increase yield.

2. Land preparation and fertilization

Before planting, deep plowing should be carried out according to the soil fertility, then holes should be dug and an appropriate amount of farmyard manure applied.

3. Planting density

Whether papaya is sweet or not has a certain relationship with planting density. In general, for papaya planted on ordinary terrain, a plant spacing of about 80 cm is best. For papaya planted in mountainous areas, a plant spacing of 2-3 m is best. For papaya planted in relatively fertile soil, a plant spacing of 4-5 m is best, so when planting, the density must be determined according to the terrain to ensure the sweetness of the papaya.

4. Orchard management

(1) Reasonable fertilization: Papaya does not have high fertilizer requirements. Generally, applying urea and compound fertilizer once from late March to early April is best to promote plant growth. Two weeks before and two weeks after flowering, applying a mixed fertilizer of calcium fertilizer, potassium fertilizer and urea once is enough to promote fruit cell division and increase the fruit-setting rate.

(2) Appropriate watering: Papaya does not have high water requirements. Generally, watering once each during the bud stage and fruiting stage is enough to ensure sufficient water for the plant and increase yield.

(3) Fruit thinning: After papaya sets fruit, if there are too many fruits, the poorly developed fruits need to be broken open to prevent natural dropping and causing losses.

5. Disease control

During the growth period, papaya may suffer from diseases such as powdery mildew and damping-off, so during planting, control measures must be taken well.

(1) Powdery mildew: A 1500-fold solution of triadimefon can be sprayed.

(2) Damping-off: Spray with a 600-fold solution of carbendazim.

6. Harvesting method

In July-August, the color of papaya begins to gradually turn yellow, indicating that the papaya has matured and can be picked. When picking, try to choose a sunny day, and do not throw the papaya on the ground during harvest, so as not to damage the skin and affect sales.

In summary, papaya is not only easy to grow but also has low water and fertilizer requirements, so you only need to do the basic management work and disease and pest control well to successfully bear fruit and increase yield.
