As children we always heard adults say not to be picky and to eat more vegetables, and when we grow up we become that kind of adult ourselves. The value of vegetables has always been high and richly comprehensive, such as the spinach we love to eat. Spinach can also be called Persian vegetable or parrot vegetable. It is relatively common in our country, easy to buy, and not difficult to grow. So do you know the spinach planting methods and timing? What are the seed collection methods?

I. Spinach Planting Methods and Timing

Spinach planting methods:

1. Sowing and raising seedlings

When ordinary farming households grow spinach, they generally use the broadcast sowing method. In the summer and autumn of each year, soak the seeds to be sown, generally soaking them for one night. Then place the soaked seeds in the refrigerator to chill for half a day before going to the field to sow. The purpose of chilling is to help them sprout better, and both dry seeds and wet seeds will work.

Note: Before sowing, you need to water the soil well to maintain a moist environment, and then scatter the seeds into the soil.

2. Field management

Growing spinach cannot be separated from field management. Generally, after the spinach grows green leaves, it should be irrigated once with clear manure water. When the growth is relatively good, carry out weeding and topdressing. Generally, base fertilizer and nutrient fertilizer are applied, which can supplement the spinach's nutrition and also let it grow quickly.

Spinach in winter needs warmth-keeping management. You can cover it with plastic film to keep it warm when the weather gradually turns cold. Or build a vegetable shed, which makes it convenient to check the spinach's condition.

After summer spinach emerges, it also needs to be shaded from the sun. Too long in direct sunlight will accelerate the drying out of the field, so water and topdress frequently.

Spinach planting timing:

Spinach is divided into spring spinach, summer spinach, autumn spinach and winter spinach, these four kinds, sown according to the season.

1. Spring spinach can generally be sown once the temperature rises after the beginning of spring; early March is more suitable.

2. Summer spinach is generally sown when summer arrives; May to July is a good time to sow summer spinach.

3. Autumn spinach is generally sown around the start of autumn each year; August to September is fine.

4. Winter spinach is sown from October to November as the weather gradually turns cold.

II. Spinach Seed Collection Methods

Spinach is generally divided into two kinds: winter seed collection and spring seed collection:

1. Winter seed collection is mainly more suitable for northern regions. Due to temperature changes, northern winters are low in temperature. Scatter spinach seeds into the soil to overwinter, and by March or April of the following year they will gradually emerge. Although the yield cannot reach the ideal value, the time can be shortened a great deal.

2. Spring seed collection is mainly suitable for the south. Generally, sowing is chosen in early March, so the spinach sown this year does not need to resist the cold winter, but the yield will not be very high either.

Now do you understand the spinach planting methods and timing? Growing vegetables requires a bit more patience from everyone. Spinach is a green vegetable that can grow in a short period, so you can try more in your own field to achieve self-sufficiency.
