When ginseng is mentioned, everyone surely knows it is not only a prized tonic but also has high medicinal value, so many people like to use it to make infused liquor or stew it in soup. As market demand has gradually grown, many people have also started cultivating it artificially, so how much is ginseng per jin on the market? How can you grow it to increase the yield?

1. Introduction to ginseng:

1. Where is ginseng distributed?

Ginseng has a fairly wide distribution range and is found both in China and abroad. Abroad, it is mainly distributed in Korea, the Soviet Union, Japan and other places; within China, it is mainly distributed in Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi and other places, with the three northeastern provinces being the main production area, where it is also known as one of the “Three Treasures of the Northeast”.

2. What types of ginseng are there?

Ginseng is divided into two types: artificially cultivated and wild-grown. Artificially cultivated ginseng is further divided into garden ginseng, red ginseng, transplanted mountain ginseng, sun-dried ginseng, wild mountain ginseng, Changbai Mountain ginseng, Korean ginseng, American ginseng, Oriental ginseng and white ginseng.

2. How much is ginseng per jin on the market?

1. Ginseng market prices are relatively expensive, generally 200 to 4000 yuan per jin, and high-quality ginseng can also exceed 4000 yuan per jin; dried ginseng is 400 to 800 yuan per jin, and high-quality dried ginseng can reach tens of thousands of yuan per jin, so market prices vary somewhat depending on quality, specifications, place of origin and other factors. When buying, try to check the local market.

2. Wild ginseng is even more expensive on the market, and generally the longer the age, the higher the price. For example, wild ginseng over 15 years old is about 300 yuan per plant on the market, wild ginseng over 20 years old is about 1000 yuan per plant on the market, and wild ginseng over 30 years old is about 20000 yuan per plant on the market. Of course, if the quality is better, the price can multiply several times, so the specific price still needs to be checked at the local market. However, wild ginseng is almost gone now, so it is almost unavailable at any price.

3. How do you grow ginseng?

1. Site selection:

Ginseng likes to grow in places with good drainage, fertile soil and rich organic matter, so when choosing a site, try to choose sandy soil with a water source and relatively high terrain for planting. After choosing the site, the soil needs to be deeply plowed three times and disinfected to reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases.

2. Land preparation and fertilization:

After choosing the site, the land needs to be prepared one month in advance. Generally, about 4000 jin of organic fertilizer needs to be applied per mu, and ridges 30cm high and 1.5m wide should be made, with ditches 30cm deep and 50cm wide, to make later planting convenient.

3. Sowing and raising seedlings

(1) Seed selection: To improve the survival rate, when selecting seeds, it is best to choose seeds that are undamaged and disease-free for planting. Generally, dry-stored seeds collected in the first half of the year are best.

(2) Seed treatment: Put the dry seeds in warm water to fully absorb moisture, then add fine sand, mix evenly, and place them in a wooden box to germinate. Generally, placing the wooden box in an environment of about 20 degrees can promote seed germination.

(3) Sowing time: around April

(4) Sowing methods: Ginseng sowing methods include dibbling, broadcast sowing, drilling and transplanting, among which broadcast sowing is the most common method. The specific sowing method is to scatter the seeds in the soil, then cover with about 4cm of soil and water an appropriate amount. When sowing, broadcasting 0.5g per sq m is best, to promote seed germination.

4. Transplanting

(1) Transplanting time: Ginseng has two transplanting methods, spring planting or autumn planting, among which spring planting is generally carried out from late March to early April; autumn planting is generally carried out from early October to early November.

(2) Transplanting method: Before transplanting, first select ginseng seedlings of good quality and without disease, soak the roots in a carbendazim or zineb solution for about 10 minutes to prevent disease, then plant them obliquely on the seedling bed according to seedling size and growth years, and finally cover with soil and smooth the soil. Generally, for 2-year-old or 3-year-old seedlings, a row spacing of 20cm and a plant spacing of 10cm are suitable; for 4-year-old seedlings, a row spacing of 25cm and a plant spacing of 15cm are suitable.

5. Scientific management

(1) Loosening the soil: During the ginseng growing period, loosen the soil once each in early April, early May, June and August, to improve soil moisture and promote ginseng growth.

(2) Shading: Ginseng fears strong light, so in April to May, insert fresh branches with leaves into the ground at the front eaves and sides of the shade shed for appropriate shading, to prevent strong sunlight from scorching and causing ginseng to wither.

(3) Bud removal: After ginseng has grown for 3 years, it will bloom and set seed, so in mid-May, all flower buds should be removed to promote underground rhizome growth. When removing buds, ginseng kept as seedlings only needs 1/3 to 1/2 of the buds removed at the early flowering stage.

6. Disease control

During the ginseng growing period, diseases such as damping-off, black spot and anthracnose will appear, so prevention and control measures must be taken. If disease has already occurred, agents such as hymexazol control agents, zineb wettable powder or Bordeaux mixture can be used for control.

In short, whether ginseng is expensive or not mainly depends on size and quality, so when buying, try to consult the local market. In addition, to grow ginseng well, you need to do a good job in seedling raising, field management and other management work, so that the yield can be increased and the benefits improved.
