Bamboo fungus, also known as bamboo sheng and bamboo ginseng, is hailed as the “Snow Skirt Fairy”. Common edible bamboo fungi include long-skirt bamboo fungus, short-skirt bamboo fungus, spiny-stalked bamboo fungus and red-stalked bamboo fungus. It is rich in nutritional value and has excellent health benefits. Below, Tuliu Network introduces for you what bamboo fungus is and how to grow it?

I. What is bamboo fungus?

Bamboo fungus is a cryptogamic fungus that parasitizes the roots of dead trees. Fresh bamboo fungus has a pure white stalk, and its volva is pink and oval-shaped. It is beautiful in appearance and has long enjoyed such fine names as “Flower of the Mountain Delicacies” and “Snow Skirt Fairy”, ranking among the “Eight Treasures of the Grass”. It is mainly distributed in the humid regions of southern China, such as Sichuan, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou and Yunnan, among which the bamboo fungus of Sanming and Nanping in Fujian, Zhaotong in Yunnan, Zhijin in Guizhou, and Jiang'an County and Changning County in Sichuan, at the Shunan Bamboo Sea, are the most famous.

Bamboo fungus has high nutritional value, with effects such as nourishing and strengthening the body, tonifying qi and calming the mind. Long-term consumption can improve the body's immunity, protect the liver, and also lower blood pressure and blood lipids. In addition, bamboo fungus contains components that inhibit tumors, making it a truly excellent health product.

II. How is bamboo fungus grown?

1. Growing conditions

The conditions for growing bamboo fungus are rather demanding. Since there are now several different cultivation methods for bamboo fungus, the growing conditions differ slightly. First, we must choose a good planting site; it is best to grow it in a place with ample water, fertile soil, and a certain slope sheltered from the wind. Temperature and humidity must both be kept within a certain range so that the bamboo fungus mycelium can grow and develop normally.

2. Cultivation methods

There are currently three common methods of growing bamboo fungus: block pressing, direct bed planting, and indoor box planting. First, the block pressing method mainly involves pressing the bamboo fungus spawn into blocks and placing the blocks into the soil for planting. Bamboo fungus grown this way is more concentrated, has a shorter growth cycle, and is easier to harvest. Direct bed planting mainly uses a prepared nutrient material for planting; the area that produces mushrooms is relatively large, which can improve the utilization rate of the mushroom bed, but the growth cycle is rather long. Finally, there is indoor box planting, which requires making wooden boxes in advance, then pouring in the nutrient material, and then inoculating. This is more convenient to manage and control and can effectively improve the quality of the bamboo fungus. With this method, both quantity and quality can be guaranteed.

3. Nutrient material preparation

The main ingredients of the bamboo fungus culture material are sawdust and bran, plus one percent white granulated sugar, two percent lime powder, and other trace fertilizers totaling about one percent. Add water and stir; add water according to the principle of a one-to-two ratio, and once stirred evenly it is ready for use. Note that it needs to be stirred about once every three hours, generally about three times, after which it can be loaded. Once the nutrient material is prepared, it needs to be loaded according to the different cultivation methods. Finally, the loaded nutrient material is sterilized with high temperature or high pressure, and then it is ready for inoculation.

4. Inoculation management

The first step is to select good bamboo fungus spawn. Before entering the sterile inoculation room, put on sterile clothing, and disinfect in advance the tools and equipment to be used for inoculation before inoculation can begin. During inoculation, inoculate at reasonable intervals, generally arranged neatly on the cultivation bed with row spacing of 8-10cm and plant spacing of about 6cm, and finally gently cover it with a layer of bamboo leaves.

5. Mushroom emergence management

During the development of the bamboo fungus mycelium, the main issues are the management of temperature, humidity, light, and air circulation. First, after the mycelium has grown, cover it with a layer of fine soil that is relatively rich in fertility, and then cover it with a layer of bamboo leaves. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure good air circulation in the mushroom emergence room, keep the temperature at around 24 degrees, and keep the humidity between 80%-90%, and then you can wait for the bamboo fungus to grow and prepare for harvest.

The above is the bamboo fungus cultivation method compiled for you by Tuliu Network. Bamboo fungus has high nutritional value and good prospects for cultivation, so you may consider investing in it under suitable conditions.
