Strawberries, as a fruit commonly seen in autumn and winter, are loved by many people every year. In many regions of our country, farmers cultivate different varieties of strawberries. As a fruit of the Rosaceae family, it is sweet, juicy, and highly nutritious. So, do you know about greenhouse strawberry cultivation?

Greenhouse Strawberry Cultivation

Growing strawberries in greenhouses is already very common. The cycle is short and fruiting comes early, making it easier than the old-style growing methods. The specific methods are as follows:

1. Soil

The soil in the greenhouse can be disinfected directly using the sun's photosynthesis, then a layer of organic fertilizer is applied, paired with a film seal for one week, which can effectively kill the pests in the soil. After one week, remove the film and apply cake fertilizer and other compound fertilizers, loosen the soil, and carry out land preparation and bed making. This step is the same as ordinary strawberry planting: loosening the soil, plowing, and leveling. Just make the ridges according to the pre-planned row width and spacing.

Note: Generally, the surface width of greenhouse strawberry beds is 50 cm, the bottom width is 60 cm, and the width of the ditch bottom can be reduced to about 35 cm.

2. Planting

The best time for planting greenhouse strawberries is in September in autumn, planted in a triangular arrangement. Since they will grow later, the planting density of strawberries must be considered at planting time. Do not plant them too closely; about 5,000-7,000 seedlings per mu is most suitable. Before planting, remove the residual leaves and weeds from the land to avoid affecting subsequent planting.

3. Management

After planting is completed, thinning between seedlings should be carried out. Watering is crucial and needs to be done twice a day. The air in the greenhouse is not like outdoors, and the temperature is higher. Until the young strawberry seedlings have fully established, this work cannot be relaxed. Once the young seedlings have established, fertilizing with water can begin. Adding nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer can provide nutrients to the strawberries.

4. Mulching

Because the temperature in the greenhouse is higher than outdoors, insulation cultivation will be carried out for the strawberries, so mulching is necessary. For mulching, opaque black ethylene film is generally chosen, which can effectively block light and promote growth.

5. Pests and Diseases

Because the temperature inside the greenhouse is high and the humidity is also relatively high, it is easy to breed powdery mildew, gray mold, and so on. When encountering such pests and diseases, do not panic. Buy sulfur fumigants and fumigate once a week at night, which can effectively prevent and control the above pests and diseases.

6. Temperature

During the strawberry's swelling period, temperature control is very critical. During the day, the temperature inside the greenhouse needs to be controlled at around 25 degrees. In many northern regions, it snows and is cold, with extremely large temperature differences, so the temperature difference should not be underestimated. At night, the temperature generally must be kept above 5 degrees, and humidity maintained above 50%. If the temperature is too high, it will cause the strawberries to grow faster and the fruit will become smaller.

7. Harvesting

Wait until the strawberries gradually turn red and appear to have grown to eighty percent ripe, then harvesting can be arranged. During harvesting, attention should also be paid to controlling the temperature of the storage room. Only by packaging the strawberries intact can they be safely delivered to distributors and customers.

That is all for today's introduction to greenhouse strawberry cultivation. Now greenhouse cultivation techniques are already very well developed. Friends who are interested can give it a try.
