How to care for Echeveria 'Perle von Nürnberg' in winter so it survives the cold safely

This is a plant in the Crassulaceae family, genus Echeveria, and also a type of succulent. It was formerly classified as a separate species and has a lovely name, 'Perle von Nürnberg'. This plant originated in Mexico and was later introduced to other countries. After being introduced to our country, it became quite widely popular. If you grow it, you need to pay special attention in winter. So, what specific issues should you watch out for?

1. This plant's characteristics in winter

First, it likes a warm environment and is not very cold-tolerant. In winter, 5°C to 7°C is the limit it can endure; it cannot go any lower, otherwise it will suffer frost damage, and in serious cases may even freeze to death. In addition, in winter it has almost no demand for water. On one hand, this is because it is fairly drought-tolerant and afraid of waterlogging, so ordinary watering should not be too much; on the other hand, when temperatures are low, its growth is basically at a standstill, so its water requirement drops. Then there is light: it needs quite a lot in winter, otherwise the plant may develop a loose shape and sparse leaves.

2. Specific practices

(1) From late autumn to early winter, temperatures have already begun to slowly drop, so at this point we need to prepare to move the plant indoors for care. Keeping the temperature above 10°C, and at the lowest not below 5°C, will ensure it gets through winter safely.

(2) Watering: In winter, try not to water. If you observe that the soil in the pot is very dry and the leaves have become rather shriveled, you can water just a little. But be careful never to water too much, otherwise rot may occur.

(3) Light: In winter, letting the plant see plenty of sun is very necessary. It not only helps it get through winter safely, but also allows it to accumulate more nutrients, making full preparations for next year's growth and flowering.

(4) Fertilizer: Just like water, because growth is very slow at this time, there is basically no need for it either.
