Pothos is a fairly common potted green plant in daily life; its leaves are not only emerald green, but it can also purify the air. Pothos can be grown both in soil and hydroponically. Compared with soil-grown pothos, hydroponic pothos seems more suitable for lazy people, because the method is relatively simpler. So how do you grow hydroponic pothos so it grows fast? Why does root rot occur?

1. How do you grow hydroponic pothos so it grows fast?

1. The water volume must not be too much

Hydroponically grown pothos must not have all its roots submerged in water; 1/3 of the roots should be left exposed outside, and the leaves must not touch the water, so as to avoid rot affecting the water quality. Do not change the water too often; once every half month is enough, and in between just top up with water when it runs low.

In addition, for hydroponic pothos choose a wide-mouthed container, so that the branches and leaves have enough space to grow, and the water surface has a sufficiently large area of contact with the air, making oxygen more plentiful.

2. Stop keeping fish

Keeping fish in the container of hydroponic pothos is partly for looks, and the organic matter produced by the goldfish can provide nutrients for the pothos and can also prevent green algae in the water. However, goldfish consume oxygen in the water, and the pothos grows slowly because of insufficient oxygen. So if you want hydroponic pothos to grow fast, you had better scoop the fish out.

3. Trim the roots + sunbathing

Every time you change the water, promptly cut off the soft old roots (many flower lovers overlook this), which can save part of the nutrients. In addition, place the pothos somewhere it can get sun, let it see more sunlight, and ensure air circulation.

4. Use nutrient solution

Adding nutrient solution is a way to promote the growth of pothos, but it is not suitable for long-term use. Each time you change the water, add just 2~3 drops to the water. When you add nutrient solution, green algae may appear in the hydroponic container, so clean the container thoroughly when changing the water.

2. Why does root rot occur in hydroponic pothos?

1. Improper water changing

To grow pothos well, proper water changing is necessary; otherwise the hydroponic medium of the pothos becomes too heavily contaminated and the water quality deteriorates, easily becoming a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses, which then causes root rot in hydroponic pothos.

Generally, when you find that the water inside the pothos container has become somewhat cloudy, you need to change the pothos water. In spring and autumn, change the water about once every two weeks; in winter, change it about once every three weeks, to prevent improper water quality from harming the healthy growth of the pothos.

The frequency of water changes also need not be too frequent; you must leave the pothos enough time to adapt and grow. If you change the water too often, or even once a day, it can easily lead to slow growth and poor vigor in the pothos.

2. Water quality problems

Actually, as for the water quality for caring for pothos, the problems involved are not serious; you can choose tap water and then just add a little hydroponic nutrient solution to it.
