What should you do when a long-lived clivia grows crooked?
Clivia, also known as sword-leaf lycoris and large-leaf lycoris, has bright flowers, very high ornamental value, and a very long lifespan, making it suitable for pot cultivation. Many flower lovers have mentioned during the process of growing clivia that clivia often develops the problem of leaning leaves. A plant that originally looked very nice grows crooked as it grows. Today let us learn about ways to correct a crooked clivia.
1. What should you do when a clivia grows crooked?
1. Light shaping
Use tin foil or other thick opaque paper, cut it into a shape basically matching the length and width of the leaf, fold it in half, wrap it around the leaning side, and secure the paper with a paper clip. It can be corrected in about 2 weeks. After correction, remove the paper to prevent overcorrection.
2. Adjust the placement direction
Regularly adjust the placement direction of the flower pot. During vigorous growth, turn it 180° every 7 days; at other times, turn it once every 10 days.
3. Mechanical correction
Use small clips to clamp the crooked leaf together with the adjacent upright leaf. It is best to use clips with light pressure, such as small clothespins. Pad the clamped area with soft paper to prevent pinching damage to the leaves. After a period of time, it can return to an upright position.
2. How do you grow clivia so it grows well?
1. Temperature
If the temperature is high and the clivia is placed outdoors, exposed to wind and sun, the clivia leaves will lose their luster. Especially in summer, place the clivia in a cool, low-temperature place, and do not casually move it outdoors to be exposed to wind and sun.
2. Air humidity
This is also an important factor determining whether clivia blooms. Clivia likes to grow in a warm and humid environment. If the environmental humidity is too low, the clivia leaves will become lifeless, lose their luster, and this is not conducive to flowering. Therefore, be careful to keep the air humidity of the clivia growing environment at around 70%.
3. Light
Light has a great effect on the growth of clivia leaves. Strong light causes sunburn disease in the leaves, and the leaves wither; if the light is too weak and the light duration is too short, leaf photosynthesis weakens, the leaves become thin and pale, and the leaf surface loses its luster; suitable light can increase the glossiness of the leaves.
From April to October, avoid strong light, and give the clivia 2 to 3 hours of light in the morning and evening; in spring and autumn, except for avoiding strong light at noon, it can receive light all day at other times; in winter it can receive light all day, and if sunlight is insufficient on the shady side, a fluorescent lamp can be used to supplement light.
4. Soil
Clivia is suitable for growing in soil rich in humus. This kind of soil has excellent air permeability and drainage, which helps clivia absorb more nutrients. Its root system will also breathe more smoothly, which can help promote flowering.
5. Cleaning
Frequently use clean water to wash the clivia leaves so they remain clean, which is beneficial for respiration and transpiration; for the same variety, frequently washing the leaves with clean water can appropriately improve the glossiness of the leaves.
6. Fertility
If no fertilizer is applied all year round, the plant grows weakly and the leaves have no luster. Sometimes, although fertilizer is applied, the fertility is insufficient and the glossiness is poor. If too much fertilizer is applied, especially a large amount of solid fertilizer or water-soluble fertilizer, the leaves become dark green, which can also affect the glossiness of the leaves.
