Just hearing the name "Golden Sedum" makes it sound like no ordinary green plant, with its tiny, golden-yellow leaves. Just hearing the name “Golden Sedum” makes it sound like no ordinary green plant, with its tiny, golden-yellow leaves. It can be grown not only as a standalone potted plant, but also used to accent the edges of flower pots, playing a supporting role for other green plants. For beginners, if you do not understand its characteristics, it is rather difficult to grow well. So how do you grow Golden Sedum? What should you do when the leaves wilt?

I. How do you grow Golden Sedum?

1. Soil conditions

Golden Sedum is a fairly poor-soil-tolerant plant, so it has no great demands regarding soil; ordinary sandy soil is enough for it to grow well. It clusters together in tufts, like scattered stars.

2. Temperature requirements

Golden Sedum can grow normally when the temperature is above 30°C or no lower than 5°C, and generally grows most vigorously in a warm environment. So the temperature should be adjusted according to the season: keep it warm in winter and cool it down in summer.

3. Watering method

Water is an essential factor for plant growth, so watering requires some skill. Generally, you only need to water according to the moisture level of the potting soil. If you water too much, it easily causes waterlogging and root rot, leading to yellowing and dropping of leaves and even the death of the plant. So during the plum rain season, it should be kept indoors.

In winter, if the potting soil is moist and on the dry side, there is also no need to water. It is generally recommended to place it in a warm spot to prevent freezing.

4. Light conditions

If you want the leaves of Golden Sedum to be golden-yellow and true to color, you must ensure sufficient light. As long as the light meets its growth needs, the shape of the whole plant will be especially dense and attractive. Of course, in summer you should protect it from strong sun, and if grown indoors, you should move it outdoors appropriately for light, because dark and damp conditions easily breed pests.

5. Timely pruning

Golden Sedum fills its pot quite easily. To maintain its shape, proper pruning can encourage branching. You can also cut off excess branches and leaves to ensure better growth of the main stems and leaves.

II. What should you do when Golden Sedum leaves wilt?

1. Growth density is too high

Because Golden Sedum grows vigorously very easily, if it is too dense, some leaves will droop, light will be poor and air circulation bad, and naturally it will begin to slowly wilt. Moreover, most growers do not notice that the leaves below have already begun to change, and gradually the whole plant is affected.

Solution: So proper pruning is very necessary. First, it keeps the shape attractive; second, it ensures nutrient uptake for the whole plant; third, it can prevent diseased and decaying branches and leaves from spreading disease to other healthy leaves.

2. Improper repotting

Golden Sedum that has just been bought comes in a plastic pot, and many people repot it into a pot they like for a better look. But if the operation is improper and the roots are damaged, the leaves will turn yellow and wilt.

Solution: Generally, when repotting, keep the original potting soil and handle it gently. If you find rotten roots, cut them off promptly and treat the wounds properly.

3. Caused by a change of environment

If Golden Sedum bought from the market shows wilted leaves, it is a natural phenomenon, because the environment has changed: temperature, humidity, light and other conditions have all changed.

Solution: No need to worry too much. Keep it in a ventilated, dry place for a period of time, water it in a timely manner, and it will recover its vitality.

In addition, improper light and a poor ventilation environment are also among the causes of wilted leaves. Try to provide sufficient light, and if growing indoors, place it in a ventilated spot; both can reduce the occurrence of this phenomenon.
