Why isn't your Anthurium andraeanum blooming? Good care is the key to healthy growth
Pink anthurium is also known as Pink Champion, flamingo flower, Anthurium andraeanum, and laceleaf. Pink Champion has pink flowers. Pink anthurium can be grown in water or in soil. For water culture, avoid sunlight and let it see sunlight once a month. For soil culture, the requirements are higher, and failure to bloom is common. So, why isn't your pink anthurium blooming? Save the causes and solutions now.
1. Causes of pink anthurium not blooming and solutions
For pink anthurium to bloom, it needs suitable conditions of light, temperature and humidity. Generally, high temperature and high humidity are best, along with suitable light. When pink anthurium fails to bloom, it is usually caused by factors such as light that is too strong or humidity that is too low.
1. Humidity requirements
Pink anthurium likes high humidity, but in drier regions such as the north, this level cannot really be reached. When humidity is insufficient, it has an adverse effect on blooming.
Although pink anthurium likes higher humidity, this does not mean it should be watered more. Too much watering will actually have the opposite effect. So when growing pink anthurium, it is best to mainly mist it. Especially when the leaves appear dry and cracked, you can mist more. When misting, you can spray more around the plant, but try not to spray it on the leaves.
2. Suitable light
Light is an important condition affecting whether pink anthurium blooms. Generally, when light is too strong, pink anthurium blooms poorly, because excessive light, especially in summer, together with high temperature, will sunburn the leaves and cause failure to bloom.
So when growing pink anthurium, it is best to place it in a spot with diffused light for care, and not expose it to direct sunlight.
In addition, if pink anthurium is to bloom well, two more points need attention. One is to ensure a suitable temperature. The suitable growing temperature for pink anthurium is between 20°C and 30°C. Ensuring a suitable temperature helps blooming. The second is to fertilize reasonably, mainly with light and frequent applications, and some flower fertilizers can also be used to promote blooming.
2. How to care for pink anthurium?
1. Soil
When growing pink anthurium, the soil should be loose, breathable, well-draining, and able to retain water and nutrients. It is best if the soil contains a certain amount of nutrients. You can choose leaf mold or peat soil plus some perlite or cinder slag and base fertilizer to make a nutrient soil. Some broken brick pieces can be added at the bottom of the pot to help drainage.
2. Watering
Pink anthurium likes moisture and fears drought, so the soil should often be kept moist. In summer, water according to how dry or wet the soil is, about once every one to two days. Never let water accumulate in the pot, to avoid damaging the roots. Especially in winter, watering should be reduced. If there is too much water, the root system will rot. Slightly acidic water is best, and water with a pH between 4.5 and 5 can be used. In dry seasons, the plant should also be misted.
3. Light
Pink anthurium is a shade-loving plant, so it is best placed in a shaded area, but it should not be completely unable to receive any light, as this will make the plant lack colored light. In sunlight, it should be given some shade so that it is not fully exposed to the sun. But when winter sunlight is weak, there is no need to shade it, and it can be placed in the sun without worry.
4. Temperature
Pink anthurium likes warmth and fears cold, so in summer it should be protected from high temperatures and in winter from freezing damage. The suitable growing temperature is 19-25 degrees. Below 13 degrees, the plant enters dormancy, and it should be placed indoors or wrapped in a plastic bag to prevent freezing damage. When the temperature is above 32 degrees, growth stops. Generally, when it is above 25 degrees, windows should be opened for ventilation to ease the adverse effects of high temperature.
5. Fertilizing
Fertilizer can promote the growth of pink anthurium. When fertilizing, you can choose liquid fertilizer or a compound fertilizer with a nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium ratio of 1:1:1. Fertilize about once every 7-12 days, preferably in the morning or evening for better results. Or frequently apply fertilizer water, which means adding one or two drops of fertilizer liquid to the water when watering. For fertilizer water, once every three days is generally enough, but only one fertilizing method can be chosen, not both.
