Sugarcane is one of the fruits everyone loves to eat every winter, but the growing areas are mostly concentrated in tropical regions such as Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan and Guangxi. As a crop of temperate and tropical zones, sugarcane has played a role in improving the lives of many farmers, and many regions rely on long-distance logistics transport to sell it. So what is the sugarcane wholesale price? What varieties are there? How are the growing areas distributed?

1. Sugarcane Wholesale Price

The wholesale price of sugarcane is currently on a downward trend. Because large numbers of farmers have growing bases at home, once the crop is fully on the market everyone rushes to sell, the market becomes oversaturated, and the price naturally falls.

After winter sets in, the wholesale price of sugarcane is concentrated around 0.7-0.8 yuan, and when the weather is still fairly warm the price is one mao higher, but the difference is not great. The lower the price, the more saturated the market supply, because besides the wholesale price there is also the transport cost, so it is understandable that people notice a difference when buying.

2. Main Sugarcane Varieties

Sugarcane is currently classified mainly by use and by appearance. By use it can be divided into fruit cane and sugar cane; by appearance it can be divided into “Black King Kong” and “White Jade Cane”.

1. Fruit cane is mainly the fruit-type sugarcane that we usually buy more of. The skin of this type of sugarcane is easy to tear open, and it has a moderate sugar content, plenty of juice and a tasty flavour, and every fruit shop sells it in winter.

2. Sugar cane has a higher sugar content and is generally processed by hand and by machine into sugar. The skin of sugar cane is coarse and hard, and its taste is not as good as fruit cane, so it is not suitable for eating directly.

3. “Black King Kong” and “White Jade Cane” differ mainly in colour. The skin of Black King Kong is red-black, and this type of sugarcane sells for a slightly higher price than White Jade Cane; the outer skin of White Jade Cane is blue-green, its sweetness is not as high as Black King Kong, and its price is naturally a little lower.

3. Distribution of Sugarcane Growing Areas

1. The place of origin of sugarcane is India. Through the passage of time and the changes brought by human learning, it is now grown in the tropical regions of many countries. Ranked by growing area, Brazil is first, India second and China third. Countries such as Thailand, Australia and Cuba also have sugarcane growing bases.

2. China has grown sugarcane for a very long time, formerly concentrated in areas such as Guangxi and Yunnan. By the late 1990s, the sugar production of Guangxi and Yunnan had already reached more than half of the national total. Now, through artificial improvement and the simultaneous development of technology, sugarcane also has greenhouse growing bases in the Central Plains region.

That is all for today's introduction to sugarcane. Winter is exactly the good season for eating sugarcane, so if you like it, don't miss out.
